To be fair on Tesco, it was an external supplier delivering to many supermarket chains and they would have little chance of knowing about the use of illegal meat.
Having immediately dumped the suppliers involved, what's the betting that there are some surprise inspections at other meat processing plants.

That was my reaction too, the problem was they were selling it as Beef as it was in Beef Burgers, seems as long as it comes from a cow it's beef.

Someone just claimed on Newsnight that it's possibly been happening for a while and we've just not known about it. I'm glad we don't eat burgers, can't remember the last time we had any.

There were also traces of pork in there - not illegal in itself but it was not declared in the list of ingredients which is. Also, given the religious sensitivity to pork, not mentioning it is asking for trouble.

You should be buying British farm produce when you can anyway. if you look at the meat content of these things they are basically sawdust that has been rolled on a plate of mince.

Thanks for that article... that's Interesting...
My stance on the Tesco scandal Is that I don't buy meat of any kind at Tesco and certainly would never buy pre made burgers when I can make my own from beef mince very quickly. So Tesco have not affected me. But If I had of bought these burgers, what I would be enraged over Is duping me Into eating something I choose not to.
I am a big meat eater myself but I will only eat meat that I am satisfied has been slaughtered humanely by Uk regulations. But I am also a realist and understand many horses go to slaughter. The problem I and many other people have Is that the majority of horse meat comes from Europe where conditions for horses In transportation are truely barbaric and appalling. Last year, by co -Incidence, I supported Andrew Brons MEP In his call for better transportation of horses across Europe for slaughter. If I was duped Into eating horse meat from Europe, then I would be out-raged as many people are now. If any product Is clearly labelled, then the buyer has the option of boycotting It...

Yeah, who'd have thought It ? a nasty Far Right BNP MEP fighting for the rights of animals ? God bless him and long may he continue.
We had a similar situation not that long ago where consumers were duped Into buying Halal meat at Tesco when It was first sold, not clearly labelled as Halal.

If any product Is sold ' secretly ' that's where it becomes Illegal and the public feel Injustice...

All our meat is bought from the farm butchers that rear the beef that they sell. They don't inject their bacon with water that foams up in the pan when you cook it. We don't buy supermarket meat anymore.
Make your own burgers. You know what goes into them and they taste much nicer and not like carpet tiles
