I had my six month check up today following the colorectal surgery.

As the last few posts mention I have had other problems, the main ones being the Lymphoma and Ulcer diagnosed at the same time as the bowel cancer.

I am taking medication for the ulcer, and am 'waiting and watching' the lymphoma, I felt recently that some of my symptoms relate to the lymphoma, masking or mimicking the bowel problems following the surgery.

I believe the operation and recovery went perfectly, I have had problems, but that was to be expected.

I believe the problems I have at present are due to the lymphoma.

I was seen today at 4 oclock for a 2 oclock appointment, I had never seen the Doctor before, I related my history and current symptoms briefly and said I thought it was all down to my other ailments and not the operation. I then refused his offer of another colonoscopy, and asked him to chase up the lymphoma dept as I thought that to be the trouble now.

The nice Nurse told me it was better to see my GP as that referral route was quicker.

The appointment actually took ten minutes, despite my being in the hospital 2 hours.

As much as I have been impressed with the delivery and speed of treatment for the cancer, the follow up treatment has gone wrong somewhere.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experiences at your follow up appointment. From the very small snapshot I get from where I work, I'm thinking there are some major problems with our dear 65 year old NHS. I'm not a nurse, I'm a band 2 ward clerk who cannot help but observe the cracks...I mention them and nothing improves.

One down and one to go - you're right to insist that they don't take their eyes off the ball with the lymphoma.

I'm surprised that you need another referral, will it not be hte same Oncologist dealing with both?

Whatever, keep on at them until you have it beat - you've come too far to let it go now.

I am the biggest fan of the NHS, with good reason.

I had put off seeing my GP because of this upcoming appointment, on the reasoning that one visit could sort it all out, and not be a pain in the derrierre by fussing.

I do have an appointment in the New Year for the Lymphoma, trouble is it's at another Hospital........so no joined up thinking, and I think it needs attention now.........I could be panicking of course, but I don't normally.

I will be visiting my GP tomorrow.

It's always an annoyance to me when the various doctors and specialists do not communicate with each other.

Hmmm I know what you mean Wandrin. My friend that had the heart attack had to go into hospital a second time. His GP explicitly asked for feed back. (I know cause I saw the letter he wrote to them) He didn't even get sent a discharge summary . He was so angry he booked an hour phone conversation for the staff and doctors at the hospital to have it out with them. Don't mess with Iraqi doctors/surgeons eh? Hee hee hee hee.

Bruv, it sounds a lot like a 'hurry up and wait' situation. Frustrating, but hang in there mate.

Following an appointment on Monday, I shall commence chemo on Tuesday next week for the lymphoma.

I have an appointment tomorrow,presumably for tests and counseling.......placating my fears.

Depending on what they tell me, I may be having my shoulder length hair shorn off......................and possibly my droopy moustache,but not my eye brows....that is a step too far.

If it's any reassurance, I've a friend at work who's about three months ahead of you (diffuse large b cell lymphoma) and he's showing every sign of suffering a complete cure.

I'll be thinking of you Bruv. You'll do as well on Battle #2 as you did #1, & like Bryn says "soon you will be showing every sign of suffering a complete cure". Atta Boy

It's funny........... or not depending on your outlook on life's rich tapestry, this came out of the blue like a thunderbolt,despite having been expecting it

I haven't felt any symptoms, apart from a small swelling under my right ear, some discomfort around my stomach region, but nothing that would send you running to the doctor.

I thought this was just another boring trip to the hospital like all the other times.

So you're going from the Manfred Man sixties look to the Midnight oil (Peter Garrett) look? ...that's kinda cool I'm hoping the nausea doesn't make you start dancing around like him though. Lets face it, chemo is a free haircut. (as my dad used to say lol)

They make the concoction off site so we had to wait for it to arrive before they could begin.

Got cannula'd,canulared, got the drip bit put in and some pre-meds and a chat, then it ws all go.

To cut a boring story short, no side effects as it happened, finished just after five tonight, no effects as yet........waiting for them to kick in.

Carried home an array of pills.........looks like fun in the morning.

I am pleasantly surprised, no obvious side affects today.

Took more than a few pills this morning, and been resting up..............waiting, think it's the waiting and wondering that's the problem, so I am going to try carrying on as if nothing happened.

How ya doing Bruv? Was thinking of you yesterday, I was on the beach surf fishing and wondered if sitting in a chair with a rod beside a body of water might make you feel better. Even if it is winter there. Might be a calming experience.

Doing very well thank you, very pleasantly surprised really..........don't know why I listened to all the nay sayers, I am getting my own treatment for my own condition, with my own constitution...........why should I even consider other's experiences?

I am currently suffering from Viral conjunctivitis........deep joy.

Struggling to see after two days treatment, couldn't open my eyes yesterdy so I can't complain.......it is getter better.

Frightened the life out of me, woke with itchy eyes that got worse over the course of the day..

Second day could hardly see at all, so saw my GP who referrred me directly to hospital eye emergency.

One dose of the eye ointment and it improved dramatically overnight.

You don't realise what your eyesight means untli it goes.

Thank you Bruv, I've added that to my Avoid list. I had no idea it existed.

You don't have a camera close at hand do you? So we'd recognize it if we failed to see it?

I've seen it. It ain't pretty.

I hope for a rapid recovery.

Today it's not so diffficult to see, and a lot less painful.

I could put up a close up of my eyes, more like p*ssholes in the snow, or blood shot currants........not a pretty sight............not suitable for a nice forum.

That's exactly what I told the Doctor.

Said that when I had this as a kid it never hurt like this.......he said but this is the viral version..........but what do I know?

And there was me all this while thinking it was a venereal complication resulting from dubious oral practices. The amount of Optrex and Listerine I've got through in my time...

Arrived late for 8.30 at 9.00, started almost immediately being linked up to drip.

Everything went well, left the hospital at 2.30 after tuna and mayo sandwhiches crisps strawberry yoghurt,a kitkat and an apple.

So far no side affects other than red pee.

I got an all clear three weeks ago ... all clear for now.... still need to be tested every 12 weeks then that'll be reduced to once every 6 months same as Mr O Is now....
