The only thing I find remotely amusing about Halloween is the sudden and dramatic hike In the price of pumpkins at this time of the year.... those of us who actually want to use them for soups and pie's get hammered all In the name of fun.......... yah boo humbug... stick tounge out, slam door, stamp foot and stomp out.

I don't really like the "gore" aspect of the season but some of these cakes are very artful to say the least.

There's a lot of truth to that! I used to look forward to trick or treating weeks ahead when I was little or it might be more appropriate to say I looked forward to the treating part ... with me getting the treats as opposed to handing them out! Remember going home after canvasing the neighborhood and sitting on the floor checking out your stash?? Omg, that sounds like some kind of drug deal. But it was candy all the way! Periodically some well intentioned neighbor would drop a nickel in the bag or, heaven forbid, a small box of raisins.
It may or may not surprise anyone here but the spooky aspect of the holiday completely went over my head. I very adamantly refused to dress up as a monster, ghost or anything ugly. Every year, I had to have the pretty Cinderella mask. My mother invariably tried to explain yet again that the idea was to scare people. Whatever. My heart was with Cinderella and I remained loyal except for one year when I really cut loose and went as Alice in Wonderland. Ha ha! :yh_peace
