Whenever I get stressed at work, my lower lid starts to spasm, usually on my right eye. I finally got to see what it looks like and there's no resemblance to a wink at all... more like I'm about to have a stroke. :wah:

I don't like winking. It's condescending and patronising.

The last time I winked at someone It was across the Royal British Legion function room at a Police Inspector. It was my way of saying ' You now know that I know and trust me, you'll never forget that I know what you know.

Actually, he came over and asked what the wink was for. I said ' you know' and he went 6 shades of red... nuff said.

Why do Asian people have slanted eyes?

Answer:

This is a quote from the answer to the same question elsewhere:

Your question is a very valid one that most people often wonder, but never really ask.

It's called an epicanthal fold...please, NOT "slanted eyes". Many people consider this to be a derogatory description of the descendents or those of Eastern Asia (as do I, being half Korean), but most people are unaware of this and say it anyway. I'll assume you didn't know this. :)

The epicanthal fold (what we have) is something that all babies are born with, but those who may not be of Eastern Asian origin will eventually lose. The purpose of this "fold" is to protect the eyes from extreme sunlight and cold weather. Most people of the this part of Asia originated in Mongolia where the weather conditions were very cold and harsh. Also, with most of this population, you'll notice that there exists some extra padding below the eyes as well. With all that white snow and the sunlight reflecting off of it, don't you think with time our bodies would develop some sort of defense for one of our most valued senses--our sight? It makes sense, doesn't it?

Also, notice, that the farther south you travel in Eastern Asia the "rounder" the eye gets (their is less evidence of the epicanthal fold), since the climate gets warmer the farther south you go. Evolution, baby.

So, Eastern Asian eyes are NOT really slanted. They just appear to be. Instead they just have that extra fold above the eyes that make them appear "thinner", if you will.

If you want to sound halfway intelligent, please don't use the description "slanted eyes" anymore, since this will only make you seem like somewhat of a bigot (racist). (You might say it around the wrong person one day.)

Mine do that when my prescription needs changing, did you get your eyes checked. The optician said it can also happen when over tired but six weeks is a long time to have a twitch.

I always have a health check when I have my eyes tested. The last one was fine. Tiredness maybe a factor, my job is both physically and mentally exhausting at times. Stress may also play a part. I try as much as I can not to allow stress to take hold of my life but sometimes it can't be helped

As long as you're having them checked regularly, you wouldn't believe some people just order online without having a full sight test done. They can tell lots from your eyes.

I have always been lucky enough to have exceptionally good eyesight at all distances. But now I'm getting a bit older, I'm noticing that I can't actually focus at all on really small objects very close.

All normal, I know, but it feels very strange!

the goji berries listed on that page are something I came across on a diabetes site. I found them up at the local grocer... kinda a cross between raisons and apricots, if I had to describe them.

In addition to eating them for your eyesight, I recommend them to anyone who had regularity problems. Definitely not something to munch on at work.:p

I have blue eyes that can be very sensitive to intensely bright light. On occasion I'll get the effect of "aura" in my eyes that will last for about 10 or 15 minutes. Apparently that's sometimes a preliminary symptom of a migraine headache but I've never had the headache, just the aura.

To Hold Back the Tears........Ahem

"If you're tearing up at an inappropriate moment, just clear your throat. "It interrupts the mechanism in the nasal passage and larynx that controls crying," says Rebecca Nagy, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based meditation expert. Plus, after you clear your throat, you tend to swallow. This lifts your tongue to the roof of your mouth, which blocks the soft palate, making you unable to cry. "I've suggested this technique many times to brides and grooms who had trouble getting through their vows," Nagy says."
