Roads re-open after Bristol security alert
Roads in Bristol city centre are due to re-open after a 'suspicious package' was discovered in Cabots Circus.
The shopping centre was evacuated and a 100m cordon put in place after a briefcase was left outside a shop.
An Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called and a small controlled explosion carried out.
In a statement this afternoon, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that it was a false alarm.
We worked with businesses in the area and our agency partners, following well-rehearsed plans to move people behind the cordon, advised by EOD.
The safety of the public is always paramount in such situations.
We would like to thank the public and those working in the area who have been affected by the incident, for their support, patience and understanding.
– SUPERINTENDENT ANDY PULLAN, AVON AND SOMERSET POLICE
The cordon has now been lifted in the Cabot Circus area and roads are being re-opened.
Yeah thanks... It took me two hours to get home.
