Would we will see them all going to prison. One of the ironies of course being that you need government regulation cartels or monopolies from appearing not just that they cause them as the right wing think tanks would have us believe. Remove the regulation and look what happens.

Well, at least the SFO is looking at it. I have no idea what the law is in this sort of area, but you would think fraud would be a definite contender. I am also waiting to see what other banks are affected. I've always banked with Barclays. When I was a youngster, the old local Barclays was very helpful, doing things like getting me cash quick in India because they knew me. But I've noticed the change over the last decade - it has been a very expensive education: when my parents died and I inherited a bit, I went to them for advice. The advice I got, and took, suited Barclays very well, and me very badly. I am waiting to see what other banks are affected and by what before I decide what to do.

I am beginning to suspect that all of us with accounts need to move them away from Barclays to trash the company as much as possible, in order to send a message to these maniacs that they cannot treat us like this. I would also like to see more co-operation between the UK Select Committee and the US investigation. Just seems like sense and would set a useful precedent for dealing with multinationals.

A banker friend of mine told me that he and his colleagues were going to focus on the big issues from now on. In fact he sold me one in the street the other day.

One thing for sure you won't see any politicians taking responsibility for their actions or incompetence.

However, the positive side is that we now have all political parties and the Gov of the BoE all calling for change. Ok, I'm an eternal optimist, but maybe they'll actually do something this time.

And even more optimistically, maybe it'll even do some good.

Oh, and it seems there has been much more USUK co-operation than I was aware of (shows how little I know about this!) and it has been our side dragging its heels (for whatever reason - not necessarily nefarious).

The sad thing is you could see what was going to happen - they've done it before with the lib/lab pact back in the eighties. It's like watching lemmings.

Although the Lemming over the cliff Is actually a myth but I know what you mean. I see It more as rats leaving the proverbial ship.

I wouldn't put It past the spineless Lib Dem's such as Traitor Vince to attempt a Lib/Lab pact again... they'll do anything to save their sinking Party and jobs.

I stand by what I said here two years ago.... I predict a Labour landslide In 2013... If they've got any sense or balls they'll tell the Lib Dem's where to go .

It's the way both parties seem able to forget the part they played in this mess that gets me. Labour especially since 1997 can take the blame for further deregulating the banks and giving them the go ahead to do as they will.

This time I think they are really done for. I remember the lib/lab pact and thought it a mistake at the time. Any one with half a brain could have realised what would happen with the Tories - if you have principles you don't compromise on some of them for the sake of getting some others through. Gleg should have made PR on their supporting either party as just for once they needed the Liberals. A principled stance might have won more seats at another election, both the other parties had failed dismally and were seen as inherently corrupt and running scared of the electorate taking the moral high ground might have worked instead clegg went for the trough. I know many die hard liberal voters who won't be voting for them again - myself included. Next time will probably be a labour landslide and the plonkers that caused the present crisis will be back in charge.

I think you are cruel to tease oscar about her BNP affiliations - after all the lib dems have become a bit of a joke.
