It is selfish, though I think the boy in this incident is old enough to not be devastated by it. Pretty unthoughtful of her anyway...

Cutting to the chase, are we labeling this woman a "bad" woman and proclaiming that this is further evidence that the world is going to hell in a handbag or should we look for some redeeming quality in her and civilization?

I think she's probably given that boy more than any football could have, regardless of who it was from. The stiff hard lesson in life that he'll no doubt take and improve upon his own character.
