It originates from the location of the original Metropolitan Police headquarters at 4 Whitehall Place, which had a rear entrance on a street called ' Great Scotland Yard'.



Scotland Yard has since become a metonym for the HQ of The Metropolitan Police of London.

Well, I can see some sort of nationwide crime information clearinghouse, where cops can look up information on criminal activity and find out if a person under custody is wanted for other crimes somewhere else in the country, and that sort of thing.

I've seen Ronnie O'Sullivan put that much spin on but not very often - 1% news, 99% mindbending.

That's not to say it is all sweetness and light but when they move that far from reporting the facts into twisting public opinion then they become part of the problem themselves.

Be very worried. Over here, after the Waco/Randy Weaver ****up, people started refering to the FBI as a freakin bunch of idiots.
