Three good reasons to despise news outlets

I'm prepared to believe factual statements in the serious press (as opposed to filth-rags like the Sun with a history of cynically and deliberately inventing news in order to boost circulation) but I tend to get multiple sources.

I'm interested to see what doesn't make the day's news, that's newsworthy in its own right.

I have not the slightest interest in any opinion piece beyond noting factual statements.

Factual statements made by news outlets are invariably selective.

The proportion of news outlets which act as journals of record, as opposed to power centres, is far lower than it ought to be. They take sides. They attempt to influence events.

The reason for that is, I suggest, the type of owner that news outlets attract. Bad cess to them, that's what I say.

Factual statements?

In the news?

Really?

Even then, they can make a fact into a political statement.

You know what pisses me off? I only have one outlet in my bathroom.

That must be an American use of the word "outlet", it makes no sense to me. Is each sink or bath or shower not fitted with a drain outlet? Or is "bathroom" a euphemism for a room with only a flush toilet inside, in this instance?

... though not, one hopes, in your "bathroom".

But, of course, in the bathroom.

When we remodeled our house, I told the contractor I wanted lots of outlets in the master bathroom.

When finished, there were four. all neatly in one panel.

The wife wanted a nightlight.

She picked on that all but covered all four outlets.

I ended up adding a 6-port powerstrip, myself.

The contractor got really testy when I deducted the cost from his bill.

Either I'm being toyed with or the Building Regulations in the US are antediluvian.

In the UK, what Snooze refers to as her "outlet" is called a mains socket.

Not in my experience they don't.

Mains, as in the voltage it carries. Socket, into which plugs can be slid.

I don't know their attitude toward diluvians, but the voltage is lower than in England.

I shop for batteries at a store. Sometimes I need batteries to access the internet for news when I don't have an outlet handy.

I do hope you're not trying to push the thread off topic, bringing Monty Python into it. What would you think an arsenal is if not a store for batteries? Where else would you store batteries.

But a newspaper would. Maybe that's their (the news outlets) problem. They're too flexible in their definition of 'news'.
