The boy's parents either didn't want him included in the photo or they forgot to sign the permission forms (permission forms for class photos? weird). The photographer included him anyway and this is the result:

Oh my god, how horrifying. :yh_rotfl

The news reporter certainly makes it clear who she thinks is lying about what happened.

Local 10 spent much of Tuesday trying to find the student, and his parents, to get their take. Another parent told Local 10 that he's no longer at Sawgrass Elementary and so may not even be aware of the picture. School officials said privacy concerns prevented them from being able to confirm or deny if the student still attends Sawgrass Elementary.

Slow news day. I'm starting to notice most of the weird and ridiculous news stories are out of Florida.

Ain't that the truth. Florida seems to have more nuts per capita than Texas or California. Little kids seem to be endangered, especially from their own parents, and now pythons are killing off the mammals in the Everglades. Yet, I'm considering a move down there. Not anytime soon though.

Is that bad? Are you insinuating that the choice of posts don't meet your standards and you're encouraging some (meaning me) not to bother? Or is there some other meaning behind what reads as snark.

The photo's super funny but the public outcry isn't. If they had used a smiley in any color, some sensitive soul would have been offended. If they had used a star, someone would have accused them of Satanism. If they had blurred out his face, they would have been accused of trying to erase his ethnicity. It's political correctness run amok where EVERYTHING is offensive.

Just having a think ...My son and his friends play around with photos all the time . In fact if someone isn't pictured in an offensive photo there are complaints.

Yes Oscar I think it's bloody funny. Why didn't I think of things like that when I was at school?

Is it okay if some become offended by events and behaviors that perhaps others don't find offensive?

Where should we all go to get that preferred mindset that's being advocated above?

I think not.

Just accept that some folks will be offended, and behave as you will.

Enjoy the ride.

It's a great photo and one that should become a humorous family legend. Really the only person who could be emotionally affected by the photo would be the little boy and I honestly can't imagine a grade school boy thinking anything other than that it was funny and laughing about it with his pals for a long time to come. I think the adults should lighten up a little before they poison him with an inability to find humor in everyday life.

Of course its degrading, a photographer who can only get one face focused should be degraded, and it would be highly offensive to pay for such a badly focused picture. Must have been a relative of smiley face boy since thats who he focused on..

I'd bet back in the day when Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud were struggling to define their brand of neurosis, statements such as: "It's political correctness run amok where EVERYTHING is offensive." would have had the two of them salivating. We can hear statements similar to this all over FOX news from the likes of pundits such as Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Anne Coulter among others, and some liberals too, like Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz.

There's no such thing as mental neurosis in the opinion of people such as myself. What Jung and Freud labeled mental neurosis is in actuality nothing more than species variation where some of us, due to slight differences in our brains, tend to be a bit more sensitive in certain areas and feel the need to sound the alarm when those individuals determine, whether rightly or wrongly, that there are particular issues within the group that need addressing. For now, it may seem a bit dysfunctional in the way in which it plays out, but I'm thinking that's because we're all members of a very young species.

You see, there you have everything wrong within present day society.

Applying Mumbo Jumbo Spot speak to a very simple situation.

The world today with all It's Inhabitants Is being over-analysed at every turn.

The situation Is a very simple one... The dumb arsse parents held up the entire photo shoot due to not returning the permission form on time....Rather than the photographer leave him out or risk ruining the shoot for the other children, he added a smiley face.

The parents should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for putting the other children In this position and giving the photographer a tricky dilemma.

Write a letter to the parents telling them 'Tough'.... Get your form In on time next time and quit all this over-analysis of what Is basically..... LIFE

S.hit happens... you don't need a 200 word diatribe every time to detract from a parent messing up.

Did I somehow give the impression that I approve of political correctness? I think the uproar over a smiley face is ridiculous.

Why does Ahso keep doing this to my posts? It's actually a good example of what I'm protesting against, someone tries to find fault in miniscule things and greatly exaggerates the misinterpretation.

SnoozeAgain;1390825 wrote: Did I somehow give the impression that I approve of political correctness? I think the uproar over a smiley face is ridiculous. That's my point exactly. You're making a big deal over nothing. There are what, somewhere in the neighborhood of 312 million people living in the US. Within those 312 million there are bound to be lots of differing opinions on many issues, including this one. Some are offended and some are not. So what! But because there are some people within those 312 million who take exception to such a thing as this photo, statements like: "It's political correctness run amok where EVERYTHING is offensive." appear to be excessive. That's all I'm saying.

The rest of what I wrote was merely an explanation of why one might make such a statement.
