I got confused at your heading. Isn't Divine Miss M the name for Bette Midler? I do believe so. Think MM was Blonde Bombshell, or was that for Jayne Mansfield (such a vulgar yet lovable copy)

Here, "regular" jeans were always called dungarees. They were called that when MM first wore them. I don't remember "jeans" becoming the term until around the mid-sixties. From Wikpedia "Dungarees, jeans made from denim or, in the United Kingdom, Bib and brace overalls". When I was little, only Levi's or Lee's made them. We used to call jeans "blue jeans."
