I saw that one coming! For a while they have been talking about it. It is crazy yet organized at the same time. I agree with your comment BabyRider. It reminds me of a piece of artwork I once saw with a baby getting a UPC code tattooed on its bum. Its unforunate security measures have come to this, although I believe it may have many pros as well as cons. I just haven't decided which outweighs the other....

I may be so brave to give some examples later on in this thread. I'm sure it will get numerous responses....

They can slap whatever pretty, benign label they want on it. This is WRONG.
Please be brave, Tan, I'm interested in your input!

I almost don't feel qualified (as a Canadian) to comment on this. But I'm going to anyway because soon its neighbouring country will mandate the same requirements. I guess the only good that could come from this ID card is the convienience of combining certain forms of ID instead of having a combination of a drivers licence, passport, birth certificate, etc..This way it can be displayed as required from officials when travelling or other purposes. The wrong part simply has to do with PRIVACY. And restricting those w/o the card from government buildings is unrealistic as well. I think the whole thing could easily turn upside down especially with so many against it. What has stopped people from hacking and identity theft before? It may protect, it may cause more problems. I would like to see the results of this new bill in the future. Now that I have thought of it, I probably would have signed the petition against it if I had the chance. I hope no offence has been taken from any of my comments.

It's sooo dangerously vulnerable to misuse or abuse. It's also a slippery slope, I agree -re: chip implants next?

SJ, I agree... You know we now have to prove we are entitled to NHS treatment or foot the bill ???
It would be easier though to give residents cards than the illegals for obvious reasons
