Absurdity and The US Muppet Show

Can anyone seriously disagree that the 2012 US elections feature a choice of muppets? These people can't be real. If I'd written them into a script I'd be accused of mocking the US to the degree of hatred.

Alongside this craziness, we have the Indefinite Detention Bill afoot. That's the US granting itself the right to indefinitely detain without charges anyone in any country they merely suspect of terrorism. Any country. Is the government of the United States not aware that they can only make laws for their own country?

Well you got to remember even though they were puppets the muppets had much more of their own personality, veiws, and were in control of their actions much more than Obama or any of the GOP canadates are

Just had a quick look at the reports on the internet about the Indefinite Detention Bill and as far as I can see they seem to be saying the Bill will allow the indefinite detention of US citizens. It doesn't seem to refer to citizens of other countries.

We have a similar issue here - the time a suspected terrorist can be held without charge is now (I think) two weeks rather than the 24 hours it is for anything else. A worrying trend for civil liberties because of the danger of misuse in both cases.

But I don't at present see the US giving itself the right to detain citizens of other countries. Am I missing something?

...however, a closer look has revealed you are entirely correct and anyone suspected of being an "enemy combatant" can be held without trial.

Crazy. Open to abuse.

It's anyone they suspect has a link to anyone they suspect of terrorism. And y'know... your strident complaints against our gov't gives ample suspicion that you might possess such links. I'll be making some calls. [/sarcasm]

I'm offering here my personal choice for candidate and yes that's about as serious as I can be at this point. I'll sober up and knit my brows as I get closer to election day. Maybe.

And yes, I have looked at the candidates for both major parties which brings me to the above conclusion. I agree with Koan except that I won't insult the muppets.
