Caffeinated Milkshakes.

Post by KB. »

Red lips combined with earthy black coffee. The cup was marked by her indulgence and it wore the mark like a badge of newness. It was a price tag. She raised the cup to her lips, it looked heavy and it was colorful. The lines of color on the cup matched various things in the room and on her. Nothing matched the red of her lips though. She closed her eyes as she tilted the cup back and drank slowly, with purpose. He wanted to be the coffee. How could drinking coffee out of some multi-colored, over weight mug look so damn elegant? The way she drank her morning impetus was patient. She seemed to savor every drop. This wasn’t a business man grabbing a caffeinated milkshake. She was a herald of new beginnings, calling forth to the world. She brought news of warmth and pleasure with every slow sip.

He was staring and she saw him. She smiled and he blushed and looked away. He was sure she saw the need to be consumed in his eyes. There was a reason he didn’t play poker. She was aces and eights, daring to be played, bet on. Then she took another drink and he went all in. He walked to the counter, grabbed the pot and returned to fill her cup. She shook her head and motioned that she was finished but he filled the mug anyway. When he got back to his seat he sat quietly and watched red mingle with earthy black. There was purpose in her eyes as she winked at him and whispered thank you. He felt consumed by that purpose. He felt like coffee being slowly enjoyed on a chilly fall morning.
Life ain't linear.
