My Dog Follows Me Everywhere

We recently moved into a new home about 3 weeks ago. We have 1 inside dog. I was wonder.

My question is why does she follow me everywhere I go? Literally. If i go into the closet she's right there by the door. I mopped the house today and she followed me every where walking where it was wet.

Any room i'm in she will find somewhere to be comfortable. As long as she is in a room with me she is fine. But if I lock her out she will whimper. Anytime I leave to go to work or to the store I put her in her kennel.

Just wondering why. Could it be the new environment she's in? If so, how long does it take the to get use to a new environment.

Thanks!

Sounds like she's suffering separation anxiety, here's a site that might help: Separation Anxiety, Dogs, and What To Do | Dog Separation Anxiety

Could be your dog just hasn't gotten used to her new surroundings yet and will settle down once she becomes more comfortable.

I have a couple of questions for you: How old is the dog, and what

was she like prior to your move? And, how long have you had her?

Three weeks is not long to settle in to a new place, for all of you.

Do you have all boxes unpacked and some of her familiar things

out? (Toys, etc.) Snooze has the right idea as far as SA. I haven't

checked that site yet but it is probably a good place to start.

One fairly simple thing to do is leave an unwashed article of your

clothing (t-shirt or similar if you've got it) down where your dog

can have it.

Interesting that you crate for work or store and not when you are

home, you might try doing it sometimes when you are there. I'm

a little concerned with the mopping and wet feet, I hope you don't

use more than plain water to mop with!

Don't "play into" her fears, make all your comings and goings matter

of fact, and try a little obedience work between times, that really

helps them mentally.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Our dog (Chihuahua) is like that after we move for a month or so. This is third new home since she became part of our family.

It seems she wanted to make sure that when we went home, we didn't leave her in this strange place.

After she realized we were here and this was "home" she settled down.

Sooooo, Hfjslfj, it would be very nice if you were to respond here

again and let those of us who attempted to help you out know that we

didn't just totally waste our time and effort.

Inquiring minds and all...

Hfjslfj seems to be a drive-by poster, I haven't seen them reply to anything after their initial post.

Wow, thanks for the eye opener. Gonna make me hesitate to help someone next time.

On your head, hfjslfj. Enjoy the weight.

I reckon the main value of your post was helping searchers years from now, looking for advice on that problem and finding yours. The help or non-help to the original inquirer here is incidental. What was experience only known to you is now available to anyone who looks for it.
