24.75 and I really need to move that down a touch, I'm uncomfortable carrying the extra weight.

Mine's pretty bad, 40.9. I'm planning to get a lot healthier once I get over this virus I have that's playing games with my body at the moment. I do feel quite unhealthy and my immune system isn't working like it used to.

I just stood on scales to find out and I've added a stone in the last year. The BMI's still under 30 but even so. I know it's wrong, I feel wrong, I'm not going to put up with it any longer, I'm getting rid of it.
How I'm getting rid of it I'm not sure but I can make a guess. Coffee black with no sugar from now on - that'll save me two pints of milk and lord knows how much sugar a day. No more buttered bread, no more sugar on anything and no more fried sandwiches.
I have a target of removing three stone and staying on that end-weight. And I bet if I do what I just listed it'll happen, too. I've put off doing this and I ought not to have. It needs doing.

28.35, which puts me very close to morbidly obese. However my cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar are all very good and at the risk of getting banned, this is what I look like fresh out of the shower this morning
Now I'm not saying I'm not fat but going by that chart, you'd expect me to look like one of those women going for the 'world's fattest' record. I don't think I look that bad for a sedentary 53 year old with a thyroid problem.
Sorry if I grossed anyone out but these charts bug me.

I'm not taking this seriously. When I was a young lad in the Navy they used the BMI standard on me. I was 220 lbs at 19 and 6' 1". They said I should weigh 150lbs. Yeah, that would make sense if I was built like a marathon runner and not an NFL LINEMAN!!! I'm now 47 and 240, I ride 30 miles a week and I eat pretty good. It's hooey.
BMI is between 30-34.99 (Obese Class 1) Or so it says.
I'm probably in better shape than the morons that came up with this standard.

BMI makes it clear that it does not differentiate between fat and muscle and for those of an athletic persuasion the BMI ranges are adjusted upwards - by how much I don't know, I've never had cause to look
So whilst you were a young lad in the Navy, in training and fit as a fiddle, all muscle and no fat like an NFL Lineman should be then a BMI of 29 would be acceptable. At 47 with most of the muscle turned to flab, a BMI of nearly 32 is something to worry about :p

I had in mind the transformative effect Lucian Freud had on his subjects when committing them to canvas. The image you've put up is the painting. The model didn't look like that at all. I was suggesting that my problems are a great deal less photogenic than any which could be attributed to you, if indeed any could.

That doesn't stop me from feeling uncomfortably overweight though, does it. Any averaging system which ignores individual physiology is bound to be imprecise but that doesn't make it unhelpful.

It does when you are trying to get into the forces or services.
BMI only tells you that if you're built like a long distance runner you have the perfect BMI...but if you're a shot putter....you are somehow unhealthy if you are a woman.
I was always told ..Once a doctor starts on about numbers and ratios and equations ...walk straight out of that surgery.

18.65 I don't own a scale though so I'm just taking the average. I go from 17.93 to 19.37 That's slightly below weight to normal so... no need for a scale to torture myself with. I can tell if I get too far underweight as I black out when I stand up too fast. Then I eat pulled pork and all is fine.

I'm about to begin the fitness training for fire season ..I need to be able to breathe properly, not have high blood pressure or bad heart rate, and have a fitness level to get through a 12 hour shift without being so exhausted as to hurt myself. I don't need a BMI for that because you can die of a heart attack with a perfect BMI .
As regards to personal feelings about oneself .........everyone knows how they could feel a bit better. for me the winter slumber is over .................Dammit!!!

I'm abnormally thin. Other people have said they'd die to be as thin as me and some people have, in fact, killed themselves trying to be thin. I'd be happy if I was a bit more pillowy. "Ouch" is not the response you want when you hug someone.

Well according to the chart....I'm obese :-5. Since 2008 I have lost over 60 lbs and still have about 40 more to go. I have found many books to be helpful in my journey to a slimmer figure, no I'm not skinny yet-but it will happen and then I will come back and happily report my BMI! :-6

There's nothing wrong with carrying some extra weight around (or so I tell myself) but that artist makes everything look grubby and kind of perverted. She's feeling her own boob up while she's drooling on the armrest and has her foot wedged between the cushions. It's creepy.

The furniture in most London artists' studios has been at best inherited from the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, or more likely from Walter Sickert's despondent imagination applied to Camden Town house clearance sales.

None taken. I don't know how I am in denial, other than the fact that I could probably lose 10 lbs and I'd have the washboard stomach and nary a scrap of fat on me anywhere. I'm really broad in the shoulders and chest, I have a 36" waist and a 54" chest. I don't have a beer belly, hardly any at all. As for how long linemen live I never paid much attention to their life spans but I do have it on good authority that people of my build do have one big enemy. Heart failure, the heart simply doesn't last as long as a smaller persons heart. I can cross that bridge when I come to it.
I know you've been around awhile, do you think I could do more, get that score down?

I suspect that because of your particular build the BMI is not as valid, but because of your particular build I would keep your cholesterol levels in check and not eliminate, but cut your carbs way down to loose a few pounds.

Maybe we should chalk this up in the category of things you don't ask women, like their age and dress size??? I think that's a great idea. While the jury reaches a decision, could you pass the chocolate?:-6

Asking dress size might be allowed, what one can't do is inquire which branch of the Outdoor Chain supplies the tents and adjuncts a person uses for informal wear around the house. My daughter has taken to screaming and running from view when she discovers me wearing "Khaki Green Gilet Sleeveless Fisherman Zip Pocket Jacket Large" with no under-shirt, for example. It's my favourite garment at the moment.

ummm don't go by dress size ..those in the know knew all along that dress sizes in the fifties are no way the same as dress size today ...in fact a size 16 in the fifties is how less now? 12? it's bulshit ...I know I collect vintage patterns .and I can tell you now that it's different . it's disgusting. DO NOT GO BY DRESS SIZE !!! depending where it's made it has no consequence as the the actual sizing of your country ...you didn't get fatter than your sleek grandma ...they are just arseholes who made us believe we did .

I'm overweight, tried loads of diets but they make me miserable and i don't like being miserable, other things bad for my health are smoking and alcohol but i enjoy them.
I realise all these things will cut down how long i live but to be perfectly honest with you i've worked in some old folks homes and would rather die before getting to that stage.
