The husband of a missing pregnant woman from Pottawattamie County said Monday he is worried for her safety days before she is due to have their first baby together.
Stephanie Ehlers, 34, of rural Minden was last seen by her husband, Jason Ehlers, on Saturday. She told family members she had a doctor's appointment Monday in Council Bluffs, where labor was to be induced. But when family members contacted Stephanie Ehlers' doctor, they learned an appointment was never scheduled, Jason Ehlers said.
He said he and his wife had not argued, and she was sleeping Saturday night when he left for a party. When he returned at 3 a.m. Sunday, his wife - and her red 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 - were gone. "Nothing was out of the ordinary," he said.
The case quickly drew national attention Monday, with Ehlers appearing on Fox News with Greta Van Susteren and CBS's "Early Show." Stephanie Ehlers' disappearance comes within months of the conviction of Scott Peterson, who was sentenced to death for killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son.
Jason Ehlers said he and Stephanie were excited about the birth of their first child together.
Stephanie Ehlers is 5 feet 2 inches tall with short brown hair. She weighs 130 pounds and may not appear pregnant if wearing loose clothing, her husband said.
