I have to worry about the reliability of the connectors between the segments.

Yes reliability along with durability will be a factor. Therefore, waiting a few years till it's perfected, will prove prudent.

How can I be lusting over something that doesn't even exist? Nikon camera rumors say there's a couple of newly upgraded models due for release by the end of 2011. I have a wonerful new D7000 but am waiting to see the newly rumored D800, a replacement for the professional D700. I would only be interested in the body as I have 3 wonderful lenses I could use on it. This may never happen but hey, I can dream. :)
