No Option!

Having visited a new optician, being told that I "must" move to varifocals and, when I found them totally unsuitable, that I had "no option" but to move to special purpose varifocals plus distance glasses really pissed me off.
I've worn contact lenses for most of my life but my eyes were getting gritty and they were becoming uncomfortable. The only glasses I had were several years old and no longer strong enough - plus, at -10.5, the lenses were heavy enough to be irritating.
With my contacts in I could see to read, compute and drive with no problems - now, suddenly, I "must" have different prescriptions for each.
I don't like to be pissed off, it gets my back up
So, a quick visit to Moorfields later, I'm better than 20/20 for the first time in half a century. 4.5 point on the reading card - no problem, spec on the horizon - never been clearer.
The question is, therefore, why did I wait for so long? I had them assessed three years back but, because they could not be sure I would not need reading glasses (and I'm reading 12+ hours a day), I decided against. My daughter had it done a year ago and I refused to join her. I can see - why did I wait?

Blimey. At least you went to a sensible place instead of a high street outlet.
I reckon you ought to put a photo of your eyes up here, so we can wince.

Let me see if I understand you went for a current eye exam and the first place told you that you needed tri-focals?? Then you went some where else and they told you that your were 20/20 with glasses?? How is that possible do you need tri-focals or just single lens glasses big difference?
I wear no line varalux tri-focals transaction lens. I never could wear contact doing computer work I didn't blink enough and they felt like broken glass on my eyes.
No getting around it the eye do ages and it stinks..

I reckon he's been lasered. Moorfields is London's Eye Hospital.

I, too, used to wear contacts daily but a few years ago I put them away because they just weren't "working" well anymore. I got some bi-focals two years ago, but I really needed tri-focals. It took 3 visits to my nearby optician (starting in February) before I got what I needed (tri-focals). Now I can read small print easily, see the computer monitor easily, and see distant objects easily.
BTW ... I'm new here ... just in case you are wondering, "Who the heck is WrenJen?!?"

Oops, re-reading my OP it doesn't come over clearly. I've always had single power lenses and always been able to see well enough but the new optician would only reccommend varifocals and I really could not get on with them - I felt like a nodding dog and still couldn't find the sweet spot so I was straining.
Since they've been lasered my eyesight's getting better and better and I wish I'd had it done years ago.

Welcome to the Garden - I know who WrenJen is, my wife walking backwards (she's Little Jenny Wren)
I'm glad you find the tri-focals suit you as it must be far easier that having several pairs and swapping all the time. It was mostly the computer vision that got me - I didn't have enough field of vision to see enough of it clearly and, given that my job and much of my spare time is using the computer that was a no-no.

A full set - and no sign of them being bloodshot at all. The people at work all assumed I'd put my contacts back in.

I don't know, you won't be warned. I've seen photos taken during the procedure and they get a bright white dot on the front of the headrest. You only see it if the patient's bald though.

LOL not bald Spot.. !! My sister had it done and she was as close to blind as you can get. Now she doesn't wear glasses or contacts. Her vision still has some issue but is improving daily.

That'll come in useful, I'm getting nowhere with this Brazilian kit single-handed.
