I have, I'm quite sure, seen a film with Elizabeth Taylor in that I enjoyed or a role she performed that I admired. But they did all tend to date rather more badly than many other films of their time.

She improved Ivanhoe and that's still eminently watchable. On the other hand her Cleopatra was catastrophic. And I liked her opposite Peter Ustinov in Beau Brummel. And she rode a horse in National Velvet if I recall correctly, a part one could scarcely criticize though Mickey Rooney unsurprisingly stole the film. I did not, I confess, ever watch Little Women in which I understand she performed in a worthy manner.

Maybe she was more successful as a socialite and charity campaigner. A quintessentially English actress has left the studio, though it's a long while since she graced one.

I just looked over her filmography and Ivanhoe was her film I enjoyed the most. Wasn't a big fan. Her parents were from Ark City Kansas. Just south of where I live.

She certainly had a presence if not a great actor. A beautiful woman too.

The same could be said of my mother. I'm very glad my mother avoided the attentions of the press though.

Perhaps Sir Richard Burton is waiting for her with open arms. And he is sober, strong, and tender.

To be perfectly honest, I'm glad my mother avoided the attentions of Richard Burton too. Though he was, admittedly, worth listening to on the radio.

Regardless, his performances practically define effective acting. The man had an astoundingly powerful effect on radio, as well as in films and, according to respectable reviewers, on stage. It's a matter of regret that Elizabeth Taylor was so inadequate a partner when they appeared together.
