It seems not that difficult to enlist the troops of financial warriors in waging war. Very intriguing how they decide Wikileaks is breaking rules but KKK collection venues are not. Of course it's not just Mastercard, they just have the most convenient ads to make fun of. Visa and Paypal donned their helmets of hypocrisy as well. I wonder if the credit companies will also disallow subscriptions to the New York Times and Guardian along with any other newspapers that cover the cable documents.

No one from MasterCard could be reached for immediate comment, but a spokesman, Chris Monteiro, has said the site suspended dealings with WikiLeaks because "MasterCard rules prohibit customers from directly or indirectly engaging in or facilitating any action that is illegal".

Paypal froze the wikileaks account for violation of ToS but has now said they'll release the existing funds while continuing to disallow further donations. Visa and Mastercard blocked payments to wikileaks next. Paypal exec stated that they were contacted by the State directly but later corrected to say that they saw the State letter to wikileaks and took it as advisement that the site was breaking laws.

Visa and Mastercard most likely responded in connection to the favours mentioned in gmc's post above.

A Swiss bank account froze the account due to false information on Assange's address. Presumably they just need the paperwork corrected to release the funds. Most likely Assange had a connection to the address used at the time of opening and I think we can safely assume it wasn't politically motivated. The Swiss are currently hosting his site.

They still haven't managed to work out what laws, if any, wikileaks has broken. Are americans finding they can't access information on wikileaks via the internet? Just curious how much censorship has actually been imposed.
