To my horror, one must mix with the common people In Hospital very shortly.

Due to cashing In my BUPA some years ago and putting the proceeds on the favourite In the 3.30 at Doncaster, I must now resort to Frenchay Hospital where common people go.

I will be In for a few days and to my amazement, I have been asked to bring my own pillow.

This has made me wonder If I should also pack a Kettle, and My George Foreman Grill.

Take your own pillow my word that would never be allowed in the USA due to infection rules. If your smart you won't eat or drink before the surgery or you could wake up a very sick girl, or worse aspirate during surgery not fun..!! Smoking before your surgery isn't wise either hard on your lungs when your under anesthesia. Mind you I'm not telling you what to do just saying think about it. I hope everything goes well and you recover quickly.. :)

Thank You all for your posts and Thank You Kathy for the lovely Goodies... Yum Yum...

I am actually booked In for surgery on the 15th August. Not bad considering the NHS and I went to my Doc only a few weeks ago when I started to get pain. In that short time I have had blood tests, an Ultra scan at the hospital etc etc. They have booked me In pretty quick for surgery which I am told will be Key-Hole although I will be laid up for about 3 weeks after.

The last time I was In Frenchay Hospital I did cause a bit of a hoot.

I was taken from my ward to the X Ray department by 2 Porters one night and because there Is a road between the wards and the X Ray building I knew we would be going outside for a brief moment. I put my Ciggs and Lighter under the blanket and as soon as we got outside to cross the road I begged the Porters to give me 5 minutes for a Cigg. So we stopped on the side of the road, me In my Operating Gown attached to a tripod of drips, sitting up In bed smoking with 2 porters sat on the bed with me. As Patients visitors were driving Into the road to get to the car Park, we all just looked at them and said 'WHAT??'

I can just hear you saying "whhhhhuuuut" :yh_rotfl I am not after sympathy but today has been a real pig for the pain. What is worse Is that my abdomen has swollen so much that men think they are holding doors open for a pregnant lady. My clothes do not fit me and I am so damn uncomfortable that I can not wait until it is gone.

I have been dosed up with strong Pain-Killers but they seem to have no effect of late. The pain has spread Into my lower back and tops of my legs as well as the abdomen.

God... Why do women have to have these things??? :-5

Actually I'm curious the percentages of nosocomial infections relative to hospitals that wouldn't allow bringing in pillows. Bedbugs are immensely prevalent. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium responsible for several difficult-to-treat infections in humans.

[...]

MRSA can be detected by swabbing the nostrils of patients and isolating the bacteria found inside. Combined with extra sanitary measures for those in contact with infected patients, screening patients admitted to hospitals has been found to be effective in minimizing the spread of MRSA in hospitals in the United States, Denmark, Finland, and the Netherlands.

MRSA may progress substantially within 24–48 hours of initial topical symptoms. After 72 hours, MRSA can take hold in human tissues and eventually become resistant to treatment. The initial presentation of MRSA is small red bumps that resemble pimples, spider bites, or boils that may be accompanied by fever and occasionally rashes. They say I will be In for 2 days then rest up for around 3 weeks at home.

Thanks.... If I am In the same ward as last time, there are Patio doors and you can stretch a drip that far. I know because I did It last time. Either that or I will just dismantle It.

I have to take the lappy as I need to keep the pressure up on Nomad.... Got to have my fun.
