Long Air Flights

It's a 12 hour non-stop flight from Christchurch to Los Angeles that I will be taking this Sunday evening. I am looking forward to getting back to California, but not the long flight. I use Frequent Flyer Miles to get my round trip ticket to NZ and back each year and just can't justify the huge price differential between Coach and Business Class. At 6' 4", coach is a wee bit cramped & I get up frequently.
Often wonder why they can't just put in hammocks, stacked three high, in the aircraft, do away with the food and three full length movies and no flight attendants. Give everyone a sleeping pill when they board that will knock you out for 10 hours or so, and if the plane went down, you would never know it.
I understand the principles of flight, but it's still amazing how that get that big sucker up in the air and keep it there. And now, we got the air bus. What's next? A plane to carry 4,000 people?
