I was racing my husband on our bicycles and stood up while shifting gears (duh),went off the path, and smacked into a tree. I suffered a mild concusion, a couple dozen bruises, a black and split thumb nail. The worst part of my injuries was the torn calf muscles. OUCH! I needed crutches for a few days.

The message here is WEAR A HELMET! I am lucky that I didnt crack my head open.

Ouch, ouch and very ouch - those trees are hard and you're not going to win any fights with them.

Hope you recover quickly and you're back racing your husband soon - with helmet :-6

Thanks for the support folks!

I went to the hospital this morning. It turns out Ive been walking on a broken leg for two weeks. (fibula). What?!!

I was in and out within one and a half hours cast and all. Awesome service!

Apparently I have a high tolerance to pain....

No jogging for me for 6-8 weeks.

Thanks again for the support

You were lucky really, as you could have fractured your skull, or even broken your neck !!!! When you are fit enough to continue with your cycling, perhaps you had better invest in helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, leather cycling gloves, hip pads, thigh pads, knee pads, shin pads, and possibly install an impact airbag. Oh and maybe a cushion for your rear end! :wah:

Seriously, though, I'm sorry about your accident. It must be quite sore for you at the moment, and I dare say you will get very frustrated with having to cope with an incapacitating plaster on your leg for all that time. All the best to you Tan, and just take care !!

Yo have my sympathy and butt clenching understanding of knowing what it's like realising this is going to hurt. I've got a cracked helmet in my garage just to remind myself to be careful, I was wearing a rucksack which protected my back but the two aluminium bottles had massive dents in them. Still think road cycling is more dangerous than mountain biking.
