If a nuke hit that was going to make it like some of the movies do.....desolate, living underground, poisoning all plants and animals, etc etc...then I would want to be right next to it when it went off. I think it would be a slow and painful death, dying after exposure.

With a third arm I could type faster...get more housework accomplished...there might be some advantages to that.
In general though, no...I don't want to see any part of that. I don't think I am tough enough to deal with it. I would be like Jessica Simpson...whine...whine...whine...you know....ughhh...my third arm/eye/leg is gross...it itches...will you scratch it...I'm hungry...when can we go ouside...I am tired...I would have a melt down...husband would call me a weenie...we would be trapped under the earth...it would be horrible. No...fire at my head...I don't want to be around.

Hot your a clown.
Would I want to survive, hmmmm well if everyone else was as messed as I was I guess I would be able get used to that and live with it, but I suspect in the end all that nastyness would be injested and kill me anyway, yeah I would want to survive.

I would want to be blown away into oblivion. Extra limbs and organs don't appeal to me. And living underground? Imagine the dust........ :p

I remember during the Cold War in the 60`s this sort of problem was always being raised. Personally, I think if a nuclear war happened or we were hit by a giant meteorite from space or other similar cataclysmic effect , the whole of the world`s population would be vapourized almost immediately so I don`t dwell too much on the possibility of being alive in a toxic wasteland, with or without an extra arm growing out of my back.

I'd love to see Lady Cop on a horse heading into the New Wild West.
But on a serious note NO.

It's hard to see how anyone could throw enough megatons to kill even as much as, say, nine out of ten people on the planet. Even in the sixties I think that was the case, and it's more so now. I'm more bothered by the reduction in living space for wildlife, that's where destruction lies, not in nuclear war.
But given the premise then yes, I'll hang around and watch until the last second, I'm inquisitive. I might even start to hoover up the dust.
Far more likely, let's say the thinkable happened. The Chinese turn authoritarian and start bombing your nation's infrastructure, even though you're obviously not a "clear and present danger" to their national security. Everything is disrupted. You could survive but it would have to be unemployed and possibly with a foreign infantry brigade patrolling your neighborhood. Would you want to live like that?

I agree with this assessment. It wouldn't take much in terms of nuclear activity to disrupt *everything though. Loss of power = loss of everything: Food, gas, water, transportation commerce, money, etc.
Someone here had a great sig line: "We are three meals away from anarchy." Recently, there have been several polls done with the American public. The poll asked (in context): "Would you be willing to steal, rob, and even kill to feed your family if all infrastructure broke down?"
The majority of the respondents said: "Yes!" & "I would do anything to keep my family from starving to death." Imagine the consequences of that!
So, I pose the same question to the FG'ers here. Would you or wouldn't you?
