You don't return them if you find them defective. Sheesh, the woman that did this needs to be charged with neglect or something.

One hopes Torry Hansen is interviewed at length by reputable reporters in the very near future, I'd be interested to hear her point of view. Does America still employ the public pillory in small towns like Shelbyville?

If what the child says is accurate then perhaps he is better off back in Russia. It is the child's welfare we're concerned with rather than a 'no return - all sales final' policy, isn't it?

Chances are Ms Hansen paid for the adoption and seems to be willing to forgo a refund. Maybe she realized shes not as ready or fit for motherhood as she thought, in which case she behaved appropriately, albeit not conventionally.

The education minister said later Friday that it had decided to suspended the license of World Association for Children and Parents — a Renton, Washington-based agency that processed Savelyev's adoption — for the duration of the probe.
Because of one case or are there more?

I would hope the person that adopted him is not allowed to adopt any where. :-1

They have updated the article since I posted it. I see what you mean about him being better off, and I agree.

I'm sure it's quiet high! In one of my classes, the statistic was given that since the beginning of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, 30,000 children in the U.S. have died from abuse or neglect in their homes. That really depressed me!

That is sad. I remember when my parents adopted my Korean brother and sister, one couple on the same flight after about 9 months sent their child back. It was the saddest thing I have ever known, how could a person do that?

When I was small I always thought kids came from a store.

My Dad was natorious for returning items to Sears.

I told him to take me back ?? Take me back and get your money back - this isn't working out - I was @ 6 yrs. old.

These stories are disturbing

We'll have decades of uncontrolable juveniles.

Sad development

I think this means he simply has a strong will, this is not necessarily a bad thing but anyone with children can tell you they can be a handful at times. I was in fact quite the terror when I was 5 and 6. I think this woman has issues or simply bit off more than she could chew.

hmmmm I've been looking at this very very seriously lately...I was a foster parent, I've taken in my own kin......In my view this woman doesn't understand the word ..."adoption" . I would like to know what she expected from a boy brought up by an alcoholic mother and abandoned at 6 years. ......ummmm are we all clueless here ? what did she expect about the kind of work she would have to put in?

to be honest? I don't care if she contacted her lawyer....I don't care if she pleaded with agencies.......what she did to this child amounts to betrayal.......oh goody she just turned him against the west and what mothers mean in the west...well done!!! you just produced a suicide bomber or worse, a pyschopathic killer!!! Congrats!!! we're all rootin for ya babe!!! not!!!

Dawgs is better'n kids

Kibble and water are cheaper than formula and diapers.

They have more hair when they are born.

Dogs never forget to "go" before they leave.

Dogs can go on long trips without yelling "MOM HE'S TOUCHING ME!!!!"

Dogs never grow out of being kissed in front of their friends.

Dogs don't wear holes in the knees of their trousers.

It doesn't matter how much dog hair a Dog gets in its mouth.

You can cage a dog without going to jail.

Dogs don't "backwash" crackers when sharing your soda.

Dogs will watch classic Star Trek with you and won't laugh at the special effects.

Dogs hide their "blankies" in their crates rather than dragging them around in public.

It's OK and even encouraged to tattoo your Dog

The older a Dog gets, the more they like you.

Dogs don't ask why. Dogs don't ask why. Dogs don't ask why.

Dogs don't roll their eyes when you insist Dogs today have it easier.

Dogs stick their tongue deep inside your ear canal; children use a pencil.

Dogs don't jump on the bed; they just quietly shed in them and lay on you, considerately adding to your warmth.

Dog poop is easier to get off the wall than crayon.

When Dogs don't listen to you, it is because they cannot understand the complex human language.

Dogs have tails, making it easier to grab them as they run away.

No one passes you a Dog with a loaded diaper.

Dogs dig for buried treasure in the litterbox. Kids won't even dump the litterbox.

When Dogs interrupt you making love, you don't have to explain that the two of you are "wrestling to see who does the dishes."

Dogs don't grow out of their shoes every 2 1/2 months.

Dogs, when entering those teen years, are neutered.

Out of interest, has any law enforcement office in the US bothered to even take a statement from Ms Hansen? Or has it all got swept under the carpet?

I suspect that if the Americans don't even question the woman the Russians really will get peeved. They were none too happy when that businessman focused so closely on his working day that he broiled his Russian adoptee on his back seat the other year. Maybe they'll really decide to put a ban on US adoptions in place this time.

More Russians are up in arms, this time over an Alaskan couple.Jessica Beagley showed no emotion when the jury announced its verdict. She and her husband Gary Beagley, a policeman in Anchorage, walked quickly from the courtroom without responding to reporters' questions. The couple have four biological children. Jessica Beagley could be jailed for up to a year or fined up to $10,000 when she is sentenced on Monday.

Correspondents say the case has sparked outrage in Russia, with some people calling for the boy and his twin brother to be returned there. The court case comes four months after Russia temporarily suspended adoptions by US families.

It's behaviour Russians would justifiably describe as uncultured.
