A school district on the east coast( i think) has banned the High school girls from wearing buttons that say,"I (heart) my vagina" very small pins about an inch big. The school board said that it was vulgar and that kind of language has NO place in the school. WHAT??!? What is vulgar about that word? it an anotomical term for a human bodypart. THe District suspended two girls because the girls refused to remove their buttons.
THat is exactly the kind of mentality that keeps the US at the top for underage pregnancies. Don't talk about it, because it's dirty. We need only to look at our friends across the pond(Atlantic) to see what to do. They openly talk about sex with their students and kids and underage pregnancy is the lowest it has been in...forever. We all know that our kids are having sex, but rather try to talk about it with them and openly/honestly talk with them about it, all we do is telll them how dirty it is. Everything wrong in the world leads back to education.
Countries no longer use chemical weapons because of how devastating they are. No one has detonated a nuclear weapon in war. Because we have learned from our mistakes.
We have racism because people are uneducated about the people they fear. They were raised to fear others and they taught their kids and on and on and on... They honestly don't know any better. Those people havn't been exposed to anything other than their own color/religon/race and in typical Human nature, we fear what we don't understand.
I'm sorry for rambling, but I had to get that off my chest. Thanks. :-5

Wolverine - grow up!
The School Board is absolutely correct and you know it.
No way do we want to desend to the depths of some European countries with their out-of-control liberalism.

Are you saying that if i were to wear a pin that said 'I love Big Dick' no one should have any problem with it, since Dick is just a mans name -afterall. In a high school situation? Where kids are supposed to be focused on learning something?
Sorry, normally a screaming liberal, but unless they serve some purpose other then to disrupt....save it til the bell rings.
but what do i know...
no your right flopstock. it would be the same as me wearing a pin with a pic of a woman with her mouth open"i like to sing" everyone would assume the inuendo undertones. But how can people want to "keep this out of the schools"? i have 13 and 14 year olds in my art class having sex. Regularly. If we(as a nation) can't even see or hear the word vagina, how can "we" expect our kids to know about their bodies?
Is anyone following me? It makes sense in my head but maybe i am not phrasing it right.

The situation is in Wynonna, Minn. and the girls saw the "Vagina Monologues" for the first time on a school sponsored field trip.

But there are appropriate situations and inappropriate situations, and unless the school is for budding OBGYNs..the pins are neither appropriate or serve any redeeming value in the math class.
I say save it and wear it to church...LOL

wear it to church. i never would have thought of that. hahaha

Sorry, I'm with the school board on this one...Do you have any idea how hard it is to teach Algebra to young men with raging hormones when the word "vagina" is floating around the room?
Listen, I'm a 45 year old guy with a bad 70's haircut...there's no way I can compete with a "vagina" bouncing around on a girl's look-I-just-got-breasts-and-I-can-jiggle-them-and-make-you-look chest.
Distractions in the classroom have to go, if I'm to do my job. I need 100% of their attention, 50% won't cut it. They can advertise their vaginas later...after school.
And with the teen birth rate in New Mexico standing at half of all births last year, yeah you heard me right, HALF! Do we really need to advertise at all? :wah:

Yes....you do seem remarkably well-educated Wolverine. And your statement is a bald-faced lie. If education is so bad...why is America the only remaining Hyper-power on the planet? You are also obviously typing this on a computer, and that puts you above 80% of the entire planet, so I guess education has done all right by you, eh?
I'm afraid you've lost sight of the goal , coyote. (I'm demoting you for "derogatory, hypocritical, over-generalization", and I'm putting "does not play well with other children" in your file.)

In short, I would not approve of the pins and would be horrified if my daughter even considered wearing it. I would discuss with her about what is and isn't appropriate in a school setting and if she was really bent on wearing it, I would let her proudly parade around my closed garage.

I'm divided. I love vaginas and penises. hehe.
Actually, I am divided. I think school is like any other workplace. There may be a dress code set by the "boss" that is either followed or you lose your job. OTOH I think that there is still far too much vulnerability in being female. I haven't seen the Vagina Monologues though I know some outspoken actors that were in the Vancouver production (incredible women). It is the biologically correct term. If they said I heart my c... you know what I'm saying. What does it mean? It means they like being women. Good for them.
But like I said, school is like a workplace. Do they love their vaginas more than their minds?

And see? I'd have absolutely no problem with them wearing a pin that said, "I love being a woman!" I'd actually support that pin.
But like I said, school is like a workplace. Do they love their vaginas more than their minds?
Let's be honest, the whole point of this behavior is it's shock value. I'd prefer that there's nothing more shocking in class while I'm teaching than the fact that a square function graphs a parabola.

I can't really see the point of wearing a pin that tells everybody you love your bits? The school are right to ban them and by doing that they're not really affecting anyone's life, they're just saying we have a dress policy (I understand in America schoolkids don't wear uniforms?) and pins like that will not be tolerated'
I'm sure the kids education isn't being affected by it. Thesedays kids like shock value and I'm sure that's why they're wearing them

Holy Crap! I didn't mean to get everyone riled up. Dang. The girls went to the Vagina Monologues at a playhouse in Minneapolis. As part of a school sanctioned field trip. The girls were so moved at what other women have had to go through, that it made the young women appreciate who they were and what they were capable of. They bought the pins at the play. and wore them to honor womens' struggles the world over. I guess what upsets me, is that the District is saying the students(boys&girls) you can be anything you want, support whatever you want... just don't do it here.

dang dude. thats's harsh.
What i meant about the biggotries leads back to education is this: Take racism for example.
Bad example i know but, the south in the states is incredibly racist. The kids put more stock in what the family tells them than what they learn in school. They listen to parents, grandparents, neighbors, etc. go on and on about the color of one's skin. They aren't learning it at school, it's at home. Many of those kids don't go on to college, stay in that same place and pass those biggotries on to their children. It has been going on for the past 15 or16 generations.
Now am I saying that it hasn't gotten any better? No I am not. Nor am I generalizing this exclusivly to the south. It is a national problem. From Alabama to Wyoming. (alphabetical for you Jives)
Now I am from a small town in Iowa. Not a single minority family while I was growing up. But my parents went out of their way to make sure i didn't take to heart the slander my grandparents, neighbors, and other "grown-ups" threw all over the place.
My mom's folks didn't go to college, gramma was 55 when she got her GED, Grampa dropped out of school and joinde the navy. Lots of kids, ****-poor education, and two of the most racist and biggoted people i have ever known.
My Dad's folks both went to college. Both recieved BA's and Gramms got her master's. instead of 9 kids, only had 3. Not a racist slur ever escaped their mouth.
THat is what i meant when i said it all leads back to education. Is seems to me that the more education a person has the more they know about the world and the people living in it, and the less racially motivated they become. That is all I meant.
Sorry i wasn't so clear about it.
Ok, I'm off my soap box. It is back in the shed.

Ah, yes, I apologize, but I took you to mean that education is the root of all evil. Something that I take offense to, since education is actively trying to eradicate evil. We are the extreme opposite of ignorance and intolerance. Not only that, but every teacher I ever saw emulated nothing but Christian morals and values. Honesty, integrity and dignity.

See? How is that eduation's fault? As a matter of fact, if we could just change the outlook of one of those children, their entire family's history could be changed forever.
Now am I saying that it hasn't gotten any better? No I am not. Nor am I generalizing this exclusivly to the south. It is a national problem. From Alabama to Wyoming. (alphabetical for you Jives)

Yes, the power of education, whether at school, or in your case, in the home, can truly shape a human being for the worse ...or the better.
My mom's folks didn't go to college, gramma was 55 when she got her GED, Grampa dropped out of school and joinde the navy. Lots of kids, ****-poor education, and two of the most racist and biggoted people i have ever known.
A case for requiring education!

Well, better "I (heart) my vagina" than for example "I (club) my wife"! That said, I honestly think that this sort of thing is totally inappropriate - and why should people who have no wish to see this be bombarded with it?

My Father was telling me that when he was in Elementary and junior high no one could wear blue jeans because they were deemed obscene by the school district.

Yep they are getting shorter. I have been out of HS for almost 10 years(just a pup) and I don't remember they gals in my class looking this, dare I say, Hot. Saw a woman at the Wal-mart, thought" holy cow! she's gorgeous!" She turned around and couldn't have been more than 15. I am too young to be a Dirty Ol' Man!! Yikes.
