Wrap your mind around this...

Anthropologists unearthed plans for a workable steam engine, usuable electricity, and water computers. Developed by the ancient Greeks. Imagine if the industrial revolution happened 3,000 years before it actually did. When Attlia the Hun was conquering the Roman Empire, he might have been rididng in a Bradley Tank. Instead of a pony.

what if the Bible is happening now...and God did tell that modern day Abraham to go kill the guy...then what?

What Abraham did would not be considered attempted murder. He was going to kill his son but God provided the ram and Abraham didn't follow through. It would be like having a knife in your hand, thinking about killing someone, then not doing it.

If he wouldn’t drop the knife he would be shot. I’m not sure what the charge would be if he dropped the knife. If he said God told him to do it, he would probably spend some time in a mental hospital.

Reading over this thread I am realizing just how much I have forgotten about the Bible.

I think so. Our culture wouldn’t understand. We cannot judge history by our norms. What was okay when I was a kid is considered extreme behavior today. What is considered okay today was considered extreme behavior when I was a kid. Keep in mind that if Abraham had killed Isaac we wouldn’t be having this discussion because there wouldn’t have been a demonstration of faith worth talking about.

The Bible in essence has little historical significance as it was written as a purely religious document. It does have kernels of history spread throughout but it was never intended to be read as history.

As for it having little to no value today I would strongly disagree. The Bible contains the wisdom of the ages and much of that wisdom is still of great value today and will be for years to come. If one is to read it as strictly an historical document then in fact it has relatively little value for today.

aright.

now i wonder what would happen if some old started screaming that

god told him to build an ark and that he was going to flood the earth.

now days with all this freakish weather and the earth quakes bust out all over...

honestly i wouldn't know what to think

i would like to poll the audience

how many people would even consider it for just a moment

on a scale of 1-10 1 being 100% and 10 being 0?

I would have to say 0% since the Bible says that it won't happen again. But then again it never happened in the first place. It is a legend.

yes,but most stories have at least a grain of truth.

i mean their could have been a flood even if it wasn't caused by a heigher power

and noah might have been very good at predicting the weather. i mean look around at whats happing now.
