Don't much like either. When I was a wee snot a stray mongrel mutt adopted us and took up quarters under our corn crib. He tolerated us enough to accept food and we tolerated him enough to keep gramps from shooting him.

Mutt and gramps had a feud going since mutt arrived. Once, gramps was in the barnyard checking the stock tank. Mutt came boiling and snarling out from under his corn crib home like a lightning bolt. He latched onto gramp's ankle, biting down hard but doing no damage, thanks to high to leather work boots. Quick as a flash, that old man grabbed mutt by the scruff of his neck, picked him up and shoved him into the stock tank, holding him under for some time. Gramps would have drowned mutt had not dad stopped him.

Gramps threw mutt onto the ground and mutt slunk off to his corn crib, wheezing and coughing. He never took on gramps again.

You could also view it as a cat would be just as happy living next door to you if they provided the same comforts for it, a dog would always want home no matter what comforts were on offer next door.

Unless you have Persian Cats... Then they are too stupid to work out that there Is a world outside the door.

I find my cats time consuming due to the grooming of Persians. They were both rescue... I'd never have bought them other-wise.

My lot live In harmony mainly due to Persians having no aggression but also due to being too stupid to run away when Puppy decides to punce on them. They Just sit and wail for me to rescue them.

I have had both over the years, sometimes together.

Cats are easier after they mature. Dogs need more attention.

I prefer a parakeet.

We've always had dogs, except when one of the reps in our company came into our office with this poor apology of a young cat, barely out of kittenhood. He was black with a tiny splash of white on his black chest, and a tiny white tip to his tail. He had a runny nose and kept sneezing. I felt so sorry for the little bugger, and I knew he probably had cat flu, but just the same I packed him into a good solid cardboard box, put some breathing holes in it, strapped it on the back of my Vespa scooter and drove carefully home with him. Oliver was our first ever pet. I thought that a cat would be more practical and fairer than a dog, as hubby and I worked all day. Oliver improved, runny nose and sneezing wise, but was never really clear of it, and with tlc he had a good life for another 5 years. He absolutely adored the country life with all the fields to explore, and even as an unadulterated 'tom' he never went off for days on end. He was a hellova mouser, and if I had let him, he would have been a hellova bird catcher. He soon learnt that birds were just there for him to growl at and nothing more! He was a wonderful character, and we mourned his passing.

Even though we had such a pleasant time with a cat, we did prefer dogs.
