That's fine if you live out in the country where you don't have to worry about drilling the neighbor.

For close quarters, like modern suburbia or apartment living you want something like a .45 auto with a short range, but lots of wallop.

Or my little makarov 9 mil. Accurate up to 30 feet.

If they're further away from me than that, they're not in my house, and my dog can handle 'em.
