A name for all things

A label to bear

A folder to file

On a ladder, the stair.

A precipice looming

My shadow I fear

Will abandon my side

In the darkness I near.

What faith do I call on

To lend me its light?

Perhaps knowledge that taking

The next step is right.

What line divides

The mind from the heart?

What courage can keep

Them from ripping apart?

As the time comes to act

I must hesitate not

My doubt and frustration

Must all be forgot.

Here I stand alone

And scared on the cliff

Plagued by the worrisome

Query "What if?"

A name for all things

A label to bear

A folder to file

On a ladder, the stair

So simple it seems

To analyse thus

To organize life

To remove all the fuss.

Yet beneath it all stirs

Like a festering pool

That unending feeling

That life is just cruel.

Then a shadow of doubt

Emerges and pleas

My life is not shaped

By simplistic decrees.

Around every corner

May be an abyss

But those who fear darkness

Will never know bliss.

I think writing is good for you too, especially through trying times. I've wrote my best stuff when I was depressed, anxious, furious, etc. None of it was any good, but it felt good to get it off my chest.
