We bought a new sofa, it was delivered today. On the middle seat the leather has a very small 'nick' in it so it looks like a white spot. I would say its not screamingly obvious but i do notice it. My husband will say i'm being overly fussy and not to bother about it.

Would it bother you, would you complain? I will try to upload some photo's to let you see it with an object beside the 'nick' for comparison.

I would definably ask for an exchange.

just the fact that its visible and you put our your hard earned money, yes.

Your not being over fussy, I would be the same, when you order something brand new, that is what you expect, brand new.

-once leather has a nick, it will tear even more when stretched.

I have leather, just alone from a cats nails nick, it opens up.

They'll either exchange it for you, offer you a partial refund so they don't have to take it back or show you where you signed off that you accepted it and insist it happened after the delivery.

Life is an adventure. I say go for it!:D

I did not have to sign anything floppy, they said i had three days to check it over. I tried taking a photo but the flash is making it unable to be seen. I have to admit it is really tiny and that's why i'm worried about being overly fussy.

Have to say other than that i'm delighted, super comfy and reclines both sides :D

My wife and I have the same discussion on stuff and usually I am more like your husband, but guys are like that, they just don’t want hassle.

However, you are right; you did not pay for a sofa with a nick in it. If you are not happy with the quality of the product delivered to you then you should complain and have it replaced, otherwise you will not be happy with your purchase.

The fact that it does not bother your husband is not relevant, it bothers you, and you need to be happy with you purchase.

I can only say that I am a perfectionist and this little tiny nick would drive me nuts :wah: I never accept delivery until I have check the entire item before the truck pulls away. I would not have accepted this and asked them to bring out a replacement even if it meant I had to wait for it. I say get a replacement because I agree a little nick can get larger with use. Good luck :-6

Sorry its the small white mark under the lighter, about centre. The flash has not helped and it is tiny. The sofa is actually really dark which makes the mark more noticable but that's not obvious in the photo above either.

Its even darker than this photo of it, again the flash making it appear different.

Get a new one. You didn't buy one with a nick in it so why keep it. If they try the old it happened after you got it say if the quality is that bad you want your money back instead, goods should be good enough for intended use not damage at the first opportunity.......

It looks as if it is in a very vulnerable position - centre base cushion. It must have been an expensive sofa, so yes, I would ask that they change it. Are you sure it isn't a blemish? Even if it is a blemish in the leather, I would still get it changed - you paid enough for it, so let's have it in 'new' condition when it is delivered !

Either that, or to save hassle, ask if they are prepared to reduce the price of it and they can refund you some money. If you are happy to do that, give them the choice. I bet they pick the refund - they'll still be in pocket, profit wise. :D

I don't think it would bother me, but my wife would not like it, and would obsess over it, and if I didn't get it replaced right off, in a few years when the nick became a tear, and the grandkids had poked and prodded it until the stuffing started to come out, then she would glare at me, knowingly, and I would feel terrible because I did not back her up on it, and would end up buying a whole new sofa to replace it long before it should have needed replacing.

No, i'm sure, its like a tiny surface scrape, i would not have been concerned about a blemish as such, it would take at least 3 hides to make a sofa that size so i think you'd have to accept some slight tonal differences.;)

If this small nik bothers you - and it will continue to bother you..

With Leather - a small nik - can develope into a large rip/tear in time.

I think I'd place a call with my concern & see where that leads..?

If the CO. allowed you a few days for exchange - I think I'd exchange the sofa.

Customer should be completely happy with merchandise.

Good Luck

Just as an example - we bought a new worktop for the centre island in our old kitchen, the first two were flawed so we rejected them, the third was also flawed but on a bit to be cut off. In the sunlight the flaws were very visible although small. Relatively cheap worktop but every time we walked into the kitchen we would have seen them and it would have annoyed us every time.

Same thing for you, it'll annoy you, you didn't pay for faulty goods so why should you accept them?

I would complain yes.

I recently bought two new leather sofa's from a well know Furnature store and we Inspected them on delivery. You did not place your order requesting a sofa with a nick in it so why should you have It?

I myself have had dreadful trouble with BT broadband lately. I have been so patient with them and Mr O has spent hours on the phone to them in the past month. We have replaced the Hub, cables, sockets, everything. Two days ago, I finally threw a strop telling them that i demanded what I paid for.

You must complain Immediately as some devious outfits will accuse your dogs of causing the nick and try to cop out of a replacement.

Hello Oscar.

I hear you on the B.T issue, they are one of the worst customer service departments i have ever encountered, Sky T.V comes a close second. My husband is a B.T technician and the abuse he has to take on a daily basis is incredible.

Unfortunately for the customer before my hubby arrives at the door they have been placed under so much stress they just explode when they see him.

Please don't fall out with yout technician when he arrives. There's probably a fault in your cable and you need a technician up the pole, not new equipment.

Thanks BC.

Our problem has been going on for weeks with BT broadband and I have been soooooo patient. I was frustrated beyond belief as I could not get e mail due to all sorts of problems. Then about two weeks ago, the hub started dropping out only showing 2 blue lights. At first it was just a case of re-setting the hub but as time went on, it was taking longer and longer to stabilise. Every time we got on to BT, they would run 24 hour checks through the system and them tell us It was their problem at their end and they were sorting It. I am studying Politics at the moment and a huge amount of that work Is done via the Internet.

Last week, we replaced the cables, sockets, hub etc etc and still had a problem. After doing all of that our end, I'm afraid I exploded down the phone to the woman at the BT call centre. She said an engineer would call within three days and I said 'Not godd enough and I was switching the whole lot to Sky.

I had an engineer by 8 the next morning and because I'm In agreement with you that It's not the engineers fault, I was very pleasent with him. He ran some tests and still could not locate the problem yet the broadband signal into our house was very strong.

After he had gone, Mr O took everything to pieces and re-connected which was enough for me to be able to access my laptop but we still have problems. If any-one can reccomend a good alternative supplier, I'd like to hear about them. Sorry to take your thread off topic BC.

Oh don't worry about the thread going off topic, all threads do.

The problem with switching to another supplier is most of them still use B.T as their base. In the jumper room (where all the technical stuff is) During the day any amount of companies can be in and out that room 'jumpering wires'

7 days is a long time to wait when you just have 3 days to change your mind.

I hope everything goes well, just don't let them talk you into keeping it by them suggesting they knock down the price.

To me, they shouldn't have had to come up and look at it, it should have been a straight exchange, so buyer beware.;)

Update -

Ok the representative came out today, i kinda expected a guy in a suit for some reason, the guy who came looked very intimidating and had no facial expressions whatsoever.

He looked, photographed and told me that obviously in the tanning process some particle had been on the leather and then came off and he could fix it.

I asked him to explain how i could manage to insert my nail into it and would he not class that as a nick. He refused to class it as a nick and was very patronizing to me explaining it again. I asked him not to insult my intelligence and found his excuse unacceptable. He left saying he would have to contact head office.

Stick to your guns BC. He's obviously been told to use 'kidology' on you (being a 'gullible' female !). You paid for a NEW and perfectly produced piece of expensive furniture, and that is what you expect to get. Not a marked or snagged piece of expensive furniture ! It is not of merchantable quality. Not sure how Scottish law compares with English law, but I would have thought with something like this it would be fairly similar. Just say, it may be small, but with people sitting on it and stretching it all the time, it could soon become much bigger! It should be exchanged and that particular sofa should be sent back to the manufacturers to sort out.

I expect he could sort it by turning the cushion upside down !:wah: But the problem would still be there ! Have you looked at the underneaths of the cushions?

Just a thought !

what did he bother making the trip for in the first place.....

We bought something at Reids Furniture last week, and the sales person gave us the wrong measurements. When we got home the thing didn’t fit so we called them back.

Now we thought that it would be a question of just returning it but noooo.

They said that we had to call the ‘Customer Care Line’ to get an authorization to return it.

We said that that was crazy as we were speaking directly to the sales person we bought it from. The sales person just gave us a phone number and said, ‘ call the customer care line’ and gave us a number.

So we called and guess what? “Thank you for calling Reids Customer Care Line, our office hours are Monday to Friday…..”

So we called back the sales person and asked them if they knew their Customer Care was not open on weekends, do they not care on the weekend?

‘It is my job to sell furniture; now I have to go do that so just call them on Monday’.

Well, we called on Monday, got the ‘return authorization’ and returned it, and will most likely never shop there again.
