Hi Madrine and welcome to Forum Garden. We are mostly American and British here so It's wonderful to have a new member from Africa.
At first the forum looks daunting but It is very simple. I find the best way Is to click on 'Today's Posts' In the middle at the top of the page. That will show you the threads ( Topics) that members have just posted on. Have a read, see what subjects Interest you and then Just dive In. I hope you enjoy your stay here.

May I ask a few questions to get to know you better?
1. Do you have a Twitter or Facebook Account?
2. What is the current time right now where you are?

Neither, I'd run out of day if I tried that.
Half past four in the afternoon.
Do Americans say "half past four" or is that just Rest Of The World usage?

Half past four in English is half five in American - maybe it's a bit like having a cup half full or half empty. The Brits look to the past. The Americans, more optimistically maybe, to the future... Golly gosh - this information needs to be suppressed immediately!!!! Or re-spun.
The English have tradition, history, etc etc, or like an interesting woman, a past. Americans, on the other hand .....
Which brings me to Aussies! Aussies don't bother much about the actual time. It's always time for a beer, and a barbie, Sport - so no worries, just relax - she'll be apples.
--------
PS
Rappy - dunno whether they still teach mathematics in Britain, but half of four is two. And to get to two o'clock from half past four, you'd probably have to move from New York to Indiana, or maybe the other way.... ???

I've always wanted to visit your country, for the culture and the magnificent wild animals you have there.

I've never been anywhere in Africa. To me it is still the Dark Continent - a place of romance and terror and mystery!
And now from the heart of that vast continent we hear a small voice saying hello. There's something - and I can't quite put my finger on it - rather wonderful about it all.

I have been to Egypt, South Africa (Jo-berg) and Swaziland. It is a big continent with many countries to see. I have enjoyed what I have seen so far and managed to go on a safari in Swazi which is great (there are photos in my album on my home page). My wife has visited Ethiopia.
What amazes me is the size of the continent, for example Ethiopia alone is the size of France and Spain combined, and that is just one country.
Are you living in Uganda or are you from there and living somewhere else?

it may be a language thing, but I think that Clodhopper did not mean that the way you have taken it. It is actually a complement meaning that Africa is full of mystery and adventure and romance and the unknown, not lifeless.

Africa is not a dark continent as you term it Clodhopper,it's just a beautiful place with loving people, get some time and visit it you will surely see the difference and you will erase away all those negative thoughts you have about the continent dear.

again, not meaning to jump in here, but it was not meant that way, it is not a negative view, it is a romantic one.
The use of words can mean different things sometimes. 'Dark' in this sense is not meant negatively.

No problem, madrine.
It is one of the difficulties of posting in a place where there are people from different countries - we all speak slightly different forms of English and this can lead to misunderstandings.
But it is also one of the fun things about being here - finding out what people from different areas of the globe think and feel about life.
