MORRISVILLE, Vt. -- A 17-year-old Vermont boy has been charged with raiding a tomb at a cemetery and removing the head from a corpse.

Nickolas Buckalew was being held on $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty to unauthorized removal of a dead body.

Court papers said people who knew Buckalew said he talked of using the head as a bong or pipe for smoking marijuana. Police Chief Richard Keith said the dead man's widow was notified of the vandalism.

If I were the judge in this case, I'd not ony order a ton of community service, I'd also mandate some serious court-ordered counseling and probably a comprehensive psychological exam.

Then I'd slap the maximum penalties for this and instruct the police to keep him under surveilance in the hopes we could get his drug dealer. Oh, and that reminds me, I'd offer to reduce his community service if he gives up all his friends that smoke pot and his dealer.

That would really hit him where he lives.

That definitely is sick. The guy does need a psychiatric evalution. If it shows he's reasonably sane, he needs jail time. If it shows he's insane, he needs to be locked away in a mental institution with permanent supervision.

Dunno what to think about this. I definitely think an intense psychiatric evaluation is in order.Not sure that what he did would necessarily make him a dangerous person or a potential psychopath, though, he did not murder and I'm not sure that doing what he did makes him fixated on death or bodies. But, ug, he definitely needs to be ordered to do massive community service and have maximum fines strapped on him, but I don't think he should be tried as an adult. I have a feeling that what this kid did was done out of immaturity.

That poor widow. ...if it were my husband, I would wait for the kid to turn 18 and then go kick his ass, or get some family to do it for me.
