Finally!!!!!!!! :D

As of yesterday, they are now illegal and drivers can face charges up to $500.00.

There a nuisance here, they cause accidents, idiots not paying attention, driving all over the roads, swerving in and out of traffic.

Funny part is, everyone knew about this for 3 months, Future Shop has been bombarded with blue-tooth sales in abundance just this past weekend.

Drivers were stopped repeatedly yesterday with excuses, but they are lucky....no fines until February 2010.

CBC News - Ottawa - Cellphone ban begins for Ontario drivers

26 Oct 2009 ... An Ontario law has come into effect Monday making it illegal for drivers to use hand-held cellphones, BlackBerrys and other electronic ...

We have this law in the US for over a year. Doesn't stop most people they continue to talk on their cell without bluetooth. The next law he will stop texting while driving :-5:-5 people just don't get it take your eyes off the road for a millisecond and your car swerves and could kill you and many other in the process.

Being a defensive driver has new meaning now I'm constantly looking for people on their cell phones either in front of me, in back or on the sides they aren't paying attention to their driving.

Mind you I like gadgets have and many as I can love my IPHONE. What I have never understood is this concept of multitasking while driving :driving: driving take 100% of your attention whenever your behind the wheel that is all you should be doing nothing else.

It is illegal here as well, but hard to enforce. You still see lots of people driving around with their phone to their ear, but it is a deterrent.

What happened here was that suddenly businesses that required staff to have cell phones were required to cover the cost of installing a hands free set into the employees car. This made a big difference.

But driving with cell phones couldn't be your biggest problem in Canada could it?

I know, they don't buy the bluetooth, it will be the same thing here, I was furious yesterday with a 3 months notice and the excuses they had?:-5

one had an excuse he couldn't afford to pay 90.00 for the bluetooth?

don't even make me go there with that one!:-5:-5

they are also for bitten to text......yeah, like I can see that happening.

Carla, I'm the same as you, always looking over my shoulder and everywhere for them, they make me nervous...and it shouldn't be that way when your driving.......we have enough to look out for.

and what was the point in making it legal yesterday when they aren't fining until February?

its now one of the main problems in Toronto, these drivers have accidents daily from using their cells.

businesses here will also have to put the buetooths in the employees vehicles.

and they $90.00 each......which makes me think they won't pay that much..it will be up to the driver to pull over and use their cell phones.

Oh tons here will still use their cellphones...we expect that from cell phone users here. They don't give a damn.

We have this law in Noo Joisey also Odie and everyone ignores it. The drivers are so animated or heated while on their phones, and I'm afraid that they'll crash into me as they're not watching where they're going:thinking:

I'm just so sick of listening to people talk on their phones. I live next to a restaurant and all of the workers and patrons come into the courtyard and yap on their phones. I can hear them in my home even with the windows shut. They also flip their ciggies on the ground, and I end up picking them all up as the wind blows them my way:(

Sorry, I'm whining:-1

Then there's bluetooth phones!!! It used to be that if you saw someone animatedly talking loudly to themselves as they strode down the street you knew they'd liberated themselves from the local funny farm.... NOW though....

I'm sick of it to Kathy, as I said to Carla, we have enough to concentrate on driving, let alone these cell phone idiots as well.

Oh that would be very annoying listening all day to the workers.

I hate people using them in grocery stores!

text, text and text, is something that important? no!

they just do it for the fun of it!:-5:-5

They have been made illegal to use while driving in NYC for quite some time. You still see people driving with phones to their heads these days though:/

I went through the local arbys the other night and the girl who was filling the order was talking on her cell phone the entire time:rolleyes:

I should have grabbed my phone and taken her picture to send to her boss, but it was probably the bosses daughter...:D
