I used to live just off Abbey Road in London (thats where the Beatles' recording studios still are). I used to have to walk my kids along Abbey Road to school in the mornings. As you walked towards Abbey Road you could see a dark grey line about 20 feet above the road. Above the line you could see clear blue sky, but below the line all the colours were dulled by the thick grey smog overlying them. I used to hate walking them into that thick polluted atmosphere, knowing how bad it was for their lungs. No wonder my daughter became a chronic asthmatic! It also doesn't help that cars throw out pollution from their exhaust pipes, straight into the faces of baby's in pushchairs, as they're both on a level, the same height from the ground.
