Thread for being nice to each other

Post by Clodhopper »

There's been so much rowing, flaming, arguing and fighting recently that I thought it was time for something positive.

So this is a thread for people to come and say GOOD things about other members. Why you like them. What you enjoy about their posts. Heck, anything at all as long as it's positive.

So, to start the ball rolling, or the thread unravelling, or whatever:

I think Pinckchick is an absolute sweetie. I've never heard her say a bad word about anyone, and I really admire her courage. Having met her at an FG meet I can say that she's every bit as nice in person as she is on the boards. Good to the bone.

Three cheers for Pinkchick! :-6:-6:-4

That Lon feller. He's quite nice too. In fact, he's nicer than a nice thing being nice in a nice way, nicely. I just don't believe all those who say he's an irritable ancient Scrooge who fishes with dynamite.

He's Mr Nice, he is. :D

Farmer Giles, on the other hand, could never be described as nice. That's because "nice" means "small, neat and delicate" and having read his thread about swimming in shorts that were too tight, none of those words remotely apply. "Comic genius", on the other hand, covers it nicely. :-6

The lament of a dying swan made me think of the Hymn for St Cecilia, lyrics by Auden and score by Britten:

http://www.encyclopedia.com/YouTubeDisp ... &term=Hymn to St Cecilia

It's about 10 mins long and can be hair-on-the-back-of-the-neck stuff done well.

Nice thread you got here Clogstopper :p

I couldn't begin to name ALL the names and would hate to leave anyone out but there are a lot of past and present members of FG that have been here for not only me but for my family in hard times.

There are several of ya that I couldn't imagine my life without you in it. You've helped me grow, given me advice and support, put me in my place when needed, etc. I feel like this is just another realm of my disfunctional family and I love you guys. Even the ones I don't see eye to eye with, I hold respect for you as even you lot teach me something from time to time.

To all the noobs I hope to get to know you better and hope ya stick around to see the side of some that I've had a pleasure to see and be blessed to call them friend too.

ok, enough gushy stuff for the love of christ, someone call me a b!tch already

:wah:

Suddenly, I feel like a filter.

Looking back through the thread it seems clear that despite the occasional tiff and tantrum, there is a great deal of respect and affection for the other members of the FG. Worth remembering that the rows and yelling are only a tiny proportion of what goes on here.

I thought you'd like that :wah:

People just get passionate at times, sometimes that passion overrules reason. But, it's unreasonable to think you won't encounter people you can't mesh with. This happens in everyday life all the time, no reason to think the internet is any different. Except, here you can choose to completely ignore those people and never respond or interact with them. Works for me ;)

Know the feeling. :o

Case in point is oscar's Nick Griffin comment. I wrote a response to that, but it was so explosive I deleted it before posting because this is supposed to be a thread for positive comments.

Good old "delete" button!

(I'm not upset or offended, oscar, but you know what I think of Nick "the Nazi" Griffin...)

Exactly. And there are those amongst us who thrive on stirring those passions in the more flamboyant, the less linguistically competent, the less well connected, until the tinder bursts into flame. Then they stand innocently by, all sweet reason and affability, wringing their hands in mock surprise. Respect - whether on line or off line is something earned.

Instead of banning FG members Id like to see this method of correction introduced.

Thank you.

The Judas Cradle, a terrible medieval torture where the victim would be placed on top of a pyramid-like seat. The victim's feet were tied to each other in a way that moving one leg would force the other to move as well - increasing pain.

The triangular-shaped end of the judas cradle was inserted in the victim's anus or vagina. This torture could last, depending on some factors discussed below, anywhere from a few hours to complete days.

The time it took someone to die varied enormously from individual to individual. Torturers would sometimes add weight to the victim's legs as to increase pain and hurry the victim's death. Other torturers would place oil on the device which increased pain considerably.

This device was rarely, if at all, washed. If the victim did not die quickly enough, or their painful execution was interrupted, they would invariantly die from an infection.

The victim was sometimes rocked or made to fall repeatedly onto the "pyramid". This was done so torturers could acquire vital information from the victim. If he or she refused to talk, the torturer would either add more weight to the victim or make him or her fall repeatedly on the device.

Me too Clod,, but im thinking it might just be a good idea to hand him the rope....:lips::sneaky:

I hope so. But he's no fool. An evil racist neo-nazi hungry for power, but not stupid. He knows how to handle himself in a public situation and it'll need some sharp people with personality to destroy him. Otherwise he'll weasel it with smooth populist lies, saying whatever the audience wants to hear to get applause.

Truthbringer may come up with a lot of stuff I disagree with, but he does engage if you ask him about it.

He's concerned about things that, if true, are indeed terrible and he clearly wants the best for our future. I've always found him polite and he clearly thinks about things.

Respect.
