Have you a friend or relative that gives their name and number when they pick the phone up?
You feel like saying 'Yes, I know the number because I just dialled it'.

But if you remember years and years ago (I was a very small child at the time :sneaky:) when you called someone from a telephone box you had a short delay before you pushed your coin in, so if the person the other end gave their number/name and you had a wrong no you didn't lose your money.
I don't do it 'cos I don't want any more nutters calling me, it's bad enough with Jimbo on the phone morning noon and night............

We have known his family for ten years. We almost live together and see each other most days. His wife is my best friend. When he rang last night, he did what he does every time he rings. He asks if it's me (yes, because you ring nearly every day), then tells me his name (yes, I know who you are, I see you nearly every day), He then tells me where he's ringing from (Yes, I know that because I know where you are and what your doing) Then he even tells me the name of the village after the name of the shop.

My phone is always answered 'this is diane' even if it's one of my kids.
I still have folks start right in on a wrong dial until I stop them and ask what number they were calling.

You picked up very quick when I rang :wah:
Sometimes when i'm in our friends shop, and they are all snowed under, I'll pick the phone up and take an order for them. Lately, we have had a few where the number is with held and on hearing my voice, they just hang up. It really is odd as our friend says it never happens on any other night when I'm not in there.

I hate calling a company and have to listen to a 5 minute litany of their position in the company, and how they can help me:(

Usually I just say, "Hello?". Occasionally I say something truly bizarre, such as "Clodhopper's Laundromat and Vegetable Pickling Emporium."
Sometimes it's good to make the day a touch more surreal. :p

I sent an e-mail to my congressman concerning the cash for clunkers program and he had the audacity to call my house and leave a message.
Granted he may not know that I try to avoid any unnecessary human contact, keep it to the absolute minimum but for Gods sake this is the 2nd time hes done that.
What happened to the days when you could yell at your representatives and they just ignored you or sent a form letter back.
I have to go underground now.

Sometimes it's good to make the day a touch more surreal. :p My wife is also very good at that but not so polite. It usually involes lap dancing or private massage with a full price list for extra services.
