Obama has ignored issues from this group.

Their greatest fear is this: Obama now holds executive power. He can over ride previous executive orders, in which many of their reservations were originally created.

A partial list of the years listed:

INDIAN AFFAIRS: LAWS AND TREATIES. Vol. IV, Laws

But he will award a medal of freedom to one Native American:

Obama to honor Crow historian, vet with Medal of Freedom | greatfallstribune.com | Great Falls Tribune

Thankyou for posting it. I love reading about other cultures.

My Husband and I were out in the English countryside recently hunting that ever exclusive record Barbel fish and we stumbled upon a true Cree Indian carving a lump of wood. We talked at length as to how he ended up home-less in England but his life was so interesting.

My cousin's dad, the half indian uncle is French for the other half. His mom was full blooded Cree or Cherokee, I forget which. Cousin is researching the family for a book. She has travelled parts of Canada and all over the USA interviewing relatives. Her great granddad was a fur trader. He established trading posts around Canada. That's how he met the mom.

I am so fascinated by folks ancestry. My bro traced ours back to the 18th century and is stuck there at the moment. Ours is nothing to shout about although a very military family.

I love seeing old photo's of folks ancesters as well.

The Cree we met was just fascinating. He had travelled the world doing his carvings and we told him we would go back to see him as he sleeps in a van in a field. I'll ask if i can take a pic of him to post here.

I can’t tell you how surprised she was, looking up at the caseworker my daughter in

law asked, “I don’t get to pick my own doctors?” The caseworker answered by

saying, “No, you can only go to ones we approve and that will accept Medicaid”.

She went on to explain, “these are the only two”. Now, this is in a city with a population of 330,000.00 people, so its not a small town.

I don't get it. It looks like the problem is that there are not enough doctors who will accept medicaid rather than medicaid itself. Why are you not outraged that so many doctors will turn away patients just because they can't pay them enough? If they were rich enough they presumably wouldn't have a problem. or if you had some kind of universal care system there would be plenty of doctors to choose from.

Prior to the NHS in the UK there were a lot of self help co-operative based life and health insurance companies that were aimed at low earners to provide medical care and a lot of the trade unions and craft organisations had links for their members, A lot of them had Quaker or Methodist originators-not the least bit socialist. Why is there nothing like that for native americans? The basic concept was the same as our NHS in that you all pay a regular premium but the benefits are there if you need them-so yes some people pay for the care of others, on the other hand they also make sure it's there should they need it. That's where the concept of national insurance came from in the UK.

Most of them disappeared as the need was no longer there but some morphed in to organisation that will pay an income of you are in hospital for any length of time-medical treatment may be free but the bills still need paying.

I just don't understand americans on this issue you seem to have real hang up about supposedly socialist ideas.

Medical services for Natives Americans falls under the Indian Health Service, which falls under the BIA, Department of the Interior.

Indian Health Service

Usually some reservations that have their own hospitals and doctors provide this out of their own earning, for example casino profits. It can be a traditional hospital, or a dual type of medical practice, relying on modern medicine and traditional methods. I know one that was started in California with the doctor and traditional healer working side by side on cases, it started just about 2 years ago if I recall.

Statistics for this group are shocking in comparison to the US norm, since specific maladies affect this group more. The government just does not provide enough medical care for them.

And would this change under the propsed health care plan? I haven't read anything that said it would or wouldn't.

I recently heard a similar story. There must be oodles of homeless Cree Indians in England.
