I may be doing a mercy dash any moment now. I have just recieved a phone call to say my brother has fallen from his horse and has been taken by ambulance to hospital. It sounds certain there are broken bones but all i can do is wait for the next call. I am packing a bag just uncase.

i sincerly hope all is well and none is to badly hurt :(

Thankyou Jimbo..... Apparently he was wearing a hard hat so there should not be any head injuries but first thoughts are that she has trampled him in the fall.

My brother is a bookie and she is his race horse. She's due to run saturday as well.

All i can do is wait for the phone to ring again now.

I just wish i still lived down there and was nearer to him.

My brother is my best friend, my confident, my soul mate and we do everything together. I have worked on the race-courses for him for years and never had a cross word. he supports me in everything. We had so many things planned as well. One of which was me riding his horse..... think i'll stick to the Shetlands. She always scared me that horse anyway. At this stage, i don't know what's happening with his business as he has pitches booked on the race-courses or if his wife can take time off to care for their little boy. Oh what a mess !!!!

Take care. Thankyou Victoria........ all sorts go through your mind at times like this. It's funny, i want the phone to ring so much. The more it doesn't, the more worried i am that it's serious. I know hospitals have to take their time in assessing injuries but the news that they put him in a spine board and collar into the ambulance is making me feel ill.

It's a two and a half mile drive to his house from me so i think i'll go down anyway.

Oscar ,, think you know they will use a spine board with an accident such as that ,,, to make sure till he is checked out at the hospital:) Two and a half miles??? is that a typo?:-2

I think they do use spine boards and collars in any fall like that to be sure don't they?

I'm hoping things wil turn out okay. My little brother raises racehorses in Lexington, KY. I've had some scrapes with horses myself, but I love the creatures.

Thankyou..... my brother is a twarted racehorse jockey due to his height. He became a bookie at 21 yrs old and just lives his life on race-courses. This particular horse is a flat racer but but she can also jump. Not very well today by the look of things.

No head injury, no internal bleeding. It appears the horse landed on his legs and they are pretty smashed up.

For all you animal lovers out there, i've also heard the horse is fine also.

I will probably drive down early in the morning folks. Thankyou all for your good wishes. :-6:-6:-6

Glad to hear it's nothing worse than broken legs - though that's bad enough. I hope they mend quickly.

I've just heard that he has broken legs and ankles. They are keeping him in hospital for several days so i will probably go down to be with him in the morning. I had a days Barbel fishing with pete planned but bro must come first. I dread to think if the horse had landed on his entire body if that's what just happened to the legs.

Bro does come first, he will be in much pain after this and this may take months of recovery and possibly therapy after so much damage.

Oh Oscar. I just got caught up. I know the injuies are bad enough but it could have been so much worse. I hope he mends quickly. ((((Hugs)))) to you and your brother.

I will be going down tomorrow as my brother is having lots going on today at the hospital and his wife is with him. I have no idea how he'll manage when he gets home, he's one of these sporty, active types and he is going to hate this but it could have been a lot worse. Apparently, he's more concerned if the horse will still run saturday which is typical of him. :wah:

Thankyou..... yes, it could have been horrendous. I've never liked that horse. She looks at me in a far too many teeth, wide eyes and hard hooves type way. I've tried bribing her with mints but we have never hit it off since i gave her a Rowntree's Pastill and it stuck to the roof of her mouth.

I have spent years on race-courses and have never feared any horse or animal in my life but i am extremely nervous around her i must admit. There has been many occassions where i have posed for photographs with her and she just walks away from me and leaves me standing there. I will just have to accept that she doesn't like me for some reason. I was going to ride her before this happened and now...... not on your nelly. :wah:

Thankyou. He'll be in a wheelchair and looking at months of physio but as we said, it could have been alot worse.

when sue had back surgery ,it looked like she would be in a wheelchair for life
