Robert Mugabe’s ruling party, ZANU-PF, appears to have retained its grip on Zimbabwe’s parliament, though it may fall short of the two-thirds majority that would allow the president to fiddle with the constitution. Either way, there is no end in sight to the hunger and disease gripping the country.

Sad day polycarp but it was ever going to be thus. Apparently now Mugabe has a mandate to now change the constitution. I just love the electoral system whereby Mugabe gets to nominate 30 mp's in a parliament of 150.
This is only going to get worse, sooner or later this despot will be deposed, let's hope there is not too much bloodshed.
Excuse my ignorance on this subject Polycarp but has he got any successor lined up?

A sad say it is indeed Bothwell. I don't have any information as to whether he has got any successor but I really do not think so. One thing with African leaders is that once in power, they don't think and therefore never see a possible end. They just cling unto power as if it were their birth right, even if it means plunging the nation into civil war. Well we hope such will not happen but we are sure looking forward to an end of Mugabe's protracted and infamous leadership. The clown is simply ruining Zimbabwe.

Mugabe is a hero to Africans across the continent. His abolition of apartheid owned land and the redistribution of it to Zimbabweans is the act of a hero and great leader. The wicked legacy of institutionalized racism will take many years to completely erase but Mugabe's courage has most definately sped up the process. Long Live ZANU-PF!!

Hello David, I don't agree with your first sentence. It is not every African that sees Mugabe as a hero. Yes he did a good job fighting Aparthied in the past, but his recent policies are damaging his previous good records. Where is the sense in taking away land from those that are using it very well and giving it to those that don't know what to do with it? Now the Black Africans have he land but there is food shorage in the country, is that wisdom?. Certainly not. When a leader's actions are driven by sentiments instead of patriotism, then it fails to deliver the goods. Right now some States in my country (Nigeria) are negotiating with the displaced Zimbabwen (white) farmers to come and use our vast unused agricultural lands. I don't know how far the negotiation has reached but we sure know that such an arrangement will favor our economy.

I can only assume that the long live Zanu pf is some sort of attempt at winding (as in clock) some of us up. ther is not an independant body in the world that does not see Mugabe as a dangerous thug at best and a murderous despot at best.

ArnoldLayne wrote: How is Mugabe corageous in killing his own people and denying them food unless they vote for him in the elections. The present barbarity has absolutely nothing to do with with redistribution of landand everything to do with the waning power of a dictator who is quite willing to starve his own people to get what he wants.
I abhor any sort of racism ,apartheid, sectarianism,it has no place in any society what so ever
Nobody denies the redistribution of a lot of the land (not all) was an important part of the process of distinguishing past atrocities, but how can that be solved by the indiscriminate killing of white farm workers and the beating and killing of many many more black farm workers.
The land has NOT been redistributed,it was handed out to his so called friends and cohorts who didnt have a clue how to run a farm. That land now stands fallow, while his people starve
In the early seventies that other thug, Idi Amin, thought it would be a good idea to rid his country of asians very much like Mugabe wants to rid Zimbabwe of whites.Ugandas economy went through the floor over night
Not long live Zanu-PF....Long live the people of Zimbabwe, black and white
There's none so blind as those who do not want to see !
I like this post and the great mind behind it. Well put
