Haven't you heard about the latest CraigsList news... after the Markoff case and how he murdered prostitutes he found advertising on CraigsList? One guy went so far as to refer to CraigsList as pretty much an online brothel! I've never even seen one of these ads on CraigsList!

Craigslist Removes "Erotic Services" Section

Reported by: Alex Shabad

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 @08:26pm CST

It's a free detailed description of his apartment ad, laid out very neatly on this website, but mark mercer says that clean slate has one little stain.

"When you see rental apartments and the next line is exotic services that's never a good plan" says Mercer.

Ok maybe it's not so little.

In fact, the "erotic services section" on craigslist is big enough, the Illinois attorney general has taken legal action.

" We are doing all we can to eliminate what had become, really, the number one venue for prostitution services" Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan.

And now, craigslist has agreed to shut that section down.

In its place, a new adult category, monitored for pornographic images by website employees.

Winnebago Co. States attorney Joe Bruscatto says it's a step in the right direction.

" In addition to actually getting the site to slow down individuals who perpetrate crimes you're getting a message that the site is being watched " says Bruscatto.

This is all kind of like a test for craigslist, it's taking new steps like shutting down erotic services, adding new security measures, and now authorities are waiting to see the results"

"If their effort is a sham doesn't produce results we'll be questioning it" says Bruscatto.

In the meantime, mercer is looking forward to posting his ads

On a website with a cleaner slate.

Hopefully that will stop that sort of thing being allowed.
