What else can I do? After a horrendous winter, submerged in wounds, illness, sugery and demtia.. The spring comes, Im back to work. Looking forward to making and saving money. Possibly having some kind of a happy break this summer. Oh No!! not in the cards for Weeder " The Cursed"
Yesterday morning Im leaving for work.. Bag on shoulder, coffee cup in left hand, bag of garbage in right... Distracted thinking of everything I have to do. My foot slips off a narrow wooden ledge... Badly twist my right ankle,
and BREAK MY LEFT LEG. Workaholic and martyr that I am, I sit there feeling kind of sick..... Sort of stretch my legs out to assess the damage, get up, and just keep going all day, in denial, just believing that everything is ok. I knew everything wasnt ok. Feeling like a wimp and a fool, I drag myself to the hospital emergency room for an x ray. When the doctor told me my leg was broken, I just bawled my eyes out. Have to see an orthopedist this morning. I dont know if this will be in a cast. Seems like it will as I looked it up this morning on the web. Ive been sitting here since 4am trying to figure out how I can work as a landscaper with a broken leg.
My son ( the comeddiene) suggested I get one of those wooden boards with the wheels on it to push myself around. He said I could change the name of my business from Weeds and Leaves.... to Weeds and Wheels.
Any suggestions????

There you go, you have been quite literally forced to take your break. Sorry to hear this Weeder, I hope you can manage to live ok for the next few weeks whilst your leg heals. Take it easy and rest whilst you can, you know it will take longer to heal if you push yourself too much. :-6:-4

Beams to you hun and a speedy recovery. Be sure to take the time to heal or you will end up with some kind of disaster later down the road.

Yikes..!! Weeder time to take a break and now your forced to take one. They do have those new walking shoes for broken legs even if your in a cast you might be able to get around of course that depends on where the break is. Lord women I thought I had bad luck, you got me beat.

My dear Weeder......................so sorry for that mishap. (I am quite clutsy myself) Let's see if we can make lemonade out of this lemon. First off, your leg must mend, so you must follow the doctors order. That said, how can you make yourself mobile so you can do your job? You work in the landscaping businees. Can you hire temporary help?
On second thought, a motorized wheel-barrow, sounds kind of good. Let's see, how could we rig it up so you could temporarily get around safely. Hmmmmmmm.

Thanks everyone. I cant afford not to work at all. I do have a helper whom I have made arrangements with. I dont know yet if I will be in a cast. See the doctor tomorrow... But Carla. I need to know more about those shoes. Very important that I be able to go out and supervise.

Ya' gotta' have a sense of humor about these things... I know the feeling, though. The best thing you can do is continue on somehow... assess what you CAN do and get some help with what you can't do... I'm sure you won't have any problem whatsoever finding help in this economy. Who knows, maybe this will end up working out better than you could ever have expected?

How low on the leg is the break - if it's low enough they might use a half-cast in which case you might be able to have some use of the leg.
I had one fitted with a wooden block on the bottom and, oddly enough, I found it possible to cycle using it. The other possibility is driving an automatic car as you'd be able to bend your left leg out of the way enough not to foul the pedals.
You've had enough bad luck - time you started getting some good luck for a change.

If you could keep going all day (well done!) then you might be fitted with a "walking cast". You can drive, and get about to some extent. Be careful using it, it can become a bit like a flakey Wellington boot if you abuse the privilege. Also, make sure you don't have one fitted when you're wearing something that won't come off over the cast....

Tomorrow I will find out if Im getting a cast. I am hoping for something I CAN walk and drive in. I also Live on the 3rd floor of my building. Another problem the stairs. But what G Man said did cross my mind today... I have been saying for years that I have to have help. This will force me. I am in quite a bit of pain right now. Didnt want to take a pain pill, but I finally did. That means I will probably be asleep by 8pm. You have all made me feel better as you always do.

Went to the orthopedist yesterday. No Cast... Thank God. The fracture is high up, does not compromise my ankle. It will heal on its own. I just have to wear the starp on device that keeps your leg straight. I take it on and off, to drive bathe etc..... So, everything will be ok.

Glad you'll be able to carry on but don't overdo it - you still need to heal.
Take care :-6
