I don't know what it is, but something really irritates me about small yappy little dogs with bulging eyes and short hair. Particularly the ones that tremble and shiver and then snarl at you. I guess they sense that I don't like them. Some of them remind me of big rats. I really like most dogs, but these bug me.

I consider myself a dog lover. I prefer dogs to people, Ive never met a lying cheating backstabbing dog yet.
Im not a lover of these tiny dogs though, I cant see the point really.
But worse than the dogs is the attitude of the owners, little Fifi or whatever does as she/he likes yaps at other dogs but woe betide if the other dog responds. The the owner picks it up 'oh baby did the big nasty dog try to bite you'? they ask never thinking that the 'big nasty dog' just got snapped at or bitten by Fifi oh no.
Then they take Fifi into shops in the trolley or on their arm, I complain 'no dogs means no dogs' I get the answer 'but they are only little and in the trolley'
YUK thats where Im gonna put my food.
A shop owner once told me if the dog was in the trolley he turned a blind eye 'oh so if I put my dog in the trolley he can come in the shop'?:sneaky:
The shop owner started to say yes and then sensing something said what dog is it?
'A cross Bouvier des Flanders / St Bernard' I said 'but if I can lift him in the trolley then by your rules he can come in'
He quickly told the person with tiny yappy dog 'sorry madam no dogs allowed' !!
99% of the time with dog problems its not the dog but the human who is at fault.

I'm with you on this one Lon. Anything under a foot tall isn't a dog it's a hamster substitute.

I had the impression that little dogs (lapdogs) were baby substitutes - baby sized, big eyes, unconditional love. Terriers and Spaniels are honourable exceptions, I suppose.
I was brought up with (by?) a succession of Newfoundlands :-4. Anything smaller than a Retriever doesn't really count for me.
I remember once that we were waiting in a car park with the first Newfi (called Disko) for Mum to finish some task, and a terrier came and attacked his back feet. Yap yap yap snarl nip!
Disko looked slowly round...lowered his gaze...looked forward again (yip yap snarl)...and then sat down! One squashed terrier squeaking under his bum. :yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl
You could see the halo forming over his head ("what...?"). We (and the passers by) were laughing so hard we couldn't speak. After a few moments, of his own accord, Disko stood up, completely ignoring the little yapper, which made off at high speed.
He was a great dog.

Awww sunny aren't they lovely dogs (I had a corgie Border collie cross once she was a wonderful dog)
Well I have run the gammit with dogs, I have owned one of the largest breeds and he was just a big loveable oaf he was so gentle and smart and huge. (the black hairy beast below)
I have had cocker spanials so loyal and smart and friendly mid sized
I have had mutts (corgie border collie cross and others) mid sized
I have now a pure bred American Eskie (dog in white below) mid sized
I have now a yorkie/pommeranian cross teeeeeny
And let me tell you.....NEVER EVER EVER would I get an eski again!!!
Lon you think those mini dogs are yappy you ain't never had an eski,OMG!!!!!!
An eski is a man made breed, bred to be a watch dog, they are anti social, loyal to an individual or family but beyond that they hate everybody and everything.... they will bite with very little provoking if you are on their turf. They require so much socialization and are lousy with children unless they are around them ALOT!!!:-5 a most frustrating breed and when I take mine to the vet or groomers they just nod and say things like "Oh he is a typical eski" and out comes the muzzle.
What I LOVE about the mini dogs such as those you talk about Lon is the attitude they think they are big dogs and in their eyes they are the protectors of the house and to let you know that they yap hehehehehe
