The Tata Nano, the world's cheapest car, has been launched in India.

Costing just 100,000 rupees ($1,979; £1,366), the Nano will now go on sale across India next month, with deliveries starting in July.

Tata hopes the 10-foot (3-metre) long, five-seater car will be cheap enough to encourage millions of Indians to trade up from their motorcycles.

Tata owner Ratan Tata has described the Nano as a "milestone". Analysts say it will not make a profit for six years.

Oh, the ultimate recycled car. Yeah, saw this on tv yesterday. Looks like a piece of shyte. Why would anybody give up their bike which doesn't take gas for instance for that thing? They are laughing over here and calling it the Mork & Mindy car (Nano):yh_rotfl

Two things concern me here... no airbag and "no welding" stuff is just glued and stuck on? It's true that you get what you pay for, I guess.

Yes, just think, if even only ten percent of Indians buy this POS, thats 120 million new 600cc ICE units pumping out more CO2, and consuming more oil, thats just what we all need right now. Still, perhaps now that we can't afford BMWs anymore, we will all be driving Tatas in years to come. I have to say the prospect is not appealing. :(

You can only buy them in India atm. They come nowhere near reaching the basic safety standards for Europe and US...;)

It's just a covered go cart! Their first accident will be their last, they just push the wreck over to the side of the road, & place the headstone in front of it! :wah:

It seats five, but what about when all of the Indians clamber up on top of it? ... I don't believe those tiny wheels will handle all that weight! :yh_rotfl

:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl In that case, you will need to add handles to both sides. I wonder what it weighs?

As long as you know where everything went, one should be able to just glue or stick all of the parts that fell off back on. :wah:

Yup, you get what you pay for... BMW and Audi, to name but two other manufacturers, use "glue" in the construction of car chassis.

Many transport their families on motorbikes. Hove you seen pictures? These cars will be efficient and rather safer.

I don't live in the target market. If I did, I'd buy one, of course. I wouldn't be able to afford two, and the next cheapest car available is about twice the price of a Nano.
