This is really funny, OK maybe not funny HA HA, but funny from a completely unbelievable perspective:

In Ireland there is a government body called the ‘Financial Regulator’ it is a ‘watch dog’ over financial institutions to ensure that they are operating within compliance.

Only a few weeks before the almost collapse of the Irish banks, and the breaking news of the incredible corruption, and illegal acts taking place within our banks, the Financial Regulator stated that the Irish banking system was ‘sound’ ‘were well capitalized’ and ‘could withstand the global economic downturn’.

The head of the Financial Regulator then decided he better retire really fast and took a golden handshake of over €600,000 to go (plus full pension).

Now with everything collapsing all around us here, people are angry and demanding on how the Financial Regulator got the it so wrong, and how could all this corruption be going on under the watchful eye of this regulatory body.

The government’s response: We cannot hold the Financial Regulator responsible as they are only public servants who do not necessarily have any background in Banking or Finance’….

:yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl We are doomed!!!!:-5

Yep, we are going down buddy, hope you enjoyed your holiday. :-6 :-1

Well the fraud squad raided the offices of Anglo Irish bank today, nice for show I suppose. I wonder where else they will be looking? The regulators office, the HQ of Fianna Fail? The offices of the central bank?

Where is the President in all of this? She needs to say something at this stage, whats happening is totally unacceptable. :-5

Still, look at it this way, we are bollixed for now, but we are still Irish, we still have our Island, and we may finally actually get the chance to get some of these b*stards, finally.

Lets see how it pans out, anyway, as a country it hardly needs to be said, we have been through worse, but that doesn't make whats going on easier to take, I just have faith in the Irish Nation to pull through it, eventually.

Is she political? CAN she say something, or does her position stop her "interfering" in issues that are politically current?

We haven't heard from the Queen, but then I wouldn't expect to. Until things get much, much worse...

She can dissolve Dail Eireann, though I guess for her to do that, she would need clear evidence of wrongdoing in government, either that or she would have to make a judgement based on the national interest, and thats a bit of a minefield.
