Something strange occured last night and i'm in a quandary.

I have a field outside my house seperated only by a very narrow lane. The field does see the gatherings of local kids on occassions but generally they are known by anyone who lives here. Mr O came home last night and said there were two hoovers in the field. It was getting dark so we did not investigate at the time.

This morning our elderly neighbour asked Mr O if he had seen the two dubious characters who had hoods on dumping the hoovers in the field. Our neighbour said he did, but didn't like to question them as they looked rather menacing. Fly Tipping in our field is liable to a heavy fine so no-one we know would ever risk it.

Mr O went out there, got the two hoovers and brought them in. Both look new. After drying out by the fire for a couple of hours from the condensation, he plugged them in, used them and they are in perfect working order.

One is an upright Dyson and as i have a similar Dyson, i know roughly how much they cost. The other is a cylinder hoover.

I have my theory but I'd be very interested in yours.

first of all, what is a hoover?

Sounds like they are stolen, take them to the police station the owners will be pleased to see them.

That's my theory too. However, given my relationship with the local plod, I am reluctant to call them. Also, if your burgled here, all you get is a crime number for the insurence co: How could they trace them and given my local lot, would they bother trying to trace them?

I should think they would have a list of things stolen, I know they're not up to much but it would'nt take sherlock holmes to marry them up.

Thing is as well, to get into our lane, you have to drive up a cul-de-sac that is a dead end and not accessible to vehicles so they must have carried them. I'm guessing they did a job very close by and took the hoovers on impulse and then found they couldn't carry them. Whipped up the lane into the field, dumped them and out the other end of the field.

If they are nicked, then i would want the person to get them back but don't want to help plod.

First of all I have to guess that what you are talking about is a vacuum cleaners. If this is so then supposing that they have been stolen and dumped in a field doesn't really make a whole lot of sense if the vacuums work. To begin with robbers don't generally steal vacuum cleaners, and if they did it's because they think they can sell it or they need one, you wouldn't steal something and then dump it.

My guess would be that either the vacuums don't work as they should and the owners didn't want to get caught just dumping them in the field so wore hoods, orrrrrrrr, they have been used to 'clean up' a crime site of any little bits and pieces that may have gotten scattered on the floor/carpet etc.

Good theory...... But they are fairly new and they work perfectly.

I know robbers don't usually nick hoovers but the local crims round here are not known for genious :wah:

If they didn't want to carry them it wouldn't make much sense to get caught carrying them to a field while wearing hoods:rolleyes:

I am supposing that it is possible to get to your lane by vehicle though right? If this is the case then the hooded ones could have come from anywhere looking for a spot away from prying eyes where the vacuums wouldn't be traced. Picking them up and taking them home is simply helping the 'hooded' ones. If you don't want to tell the police department then ask around your area if anyone knows of someone who has as been robbed.

they probably stole them, dumped them and will come back anther time to pick them up.

ahhhhh With my paranoia and your rational thinking, it did occur to me that should the hoovers be seen in my possession, could i be fitted up by the local plod for 'grand auto hoover theft'? Especially as i have been so generous in giving my dabs to the local plods?

You expect crop circles to pop up in your field but i have never had hoovers before. :wah:

I am popping down to see the neighbourhood gossip in the morning to see if she's heard of any burglaries round here.

Oh, it is safer to turn them in, then to have it somehow looks suspicous for you and Mr. O. Leave an old broom or other cleaning item in their place in the field, in case the crooks really want to clean up.

I'm curious about the contents of the hoover bags. After a crime is commited inside a building, some guilty folks try to vacuum up any evidence, and afterwards, get rid of the vacuum cleaner.

Very good point and Mr O did check. The Dyson hoover is a bagless model so only dust in there and also the same in the cylinder hoover.

It wasn't until i posted the title of the thread that i thought I could have Themis come on thinking it was a conspiricy thread about J.Edgar :yh_rotfl

this might be a possible. Have someone other than you call maybe. Don't clean out the filters though.

Well absolutely bloody typical of our comotosed local police..... Mr O has rung the police over the hoovers and was told 'the log of stolen items is too vast to check immediately. If you'd like to hang on to the hoovers Sir, we will get in touch should any one report them missing in the future'.

This is British Police code for ' look Sir, i'm having my tea right now and i can't be arssed to look or detail the imformation you are giving me'.

Well Nomad, I hear that there is such a thing as 'Karma'. If oscar is being blessed by Hoover angels then she has to share the wealth or all of her vacuums are going to break down. :sneaky:

Its not often vacuum cleaners just appear in your backyard Amber.

The neighbors dog leaves poop yes, an occasional baseball hit over the fence, sure. An expensive Faberge egg, it happens.

Vacuums not so much.
