hello its the grumps back again with another story to tickle yer tackle

PAMPERED lags are to get their OWN radio station — beamed into every cell in the country at a cost to taxpayers of £2million, The Sun can reveal.

The music and chat station will be broadcast to an audience of 81,000 at 140 jails like London’s Wormwood Scrubs Last night the Prison Service defended the cost amid outrage It said cuts meant inmates spent more time in their cells.

The shows are set to go out 12 hours a day to all prisons in England and Wales after getting the go-ahead from Jack Straw’s Justice Ministry.

Shadow Justice Minister Edward Garnier said the £2million cost was a “cock-eyed waste He hit out as officials defended the idea — claiming prison cutbacks meant lags now spend more time in their cells.

Mr Garnier scoffed: “This Government has presided over the worst prison overcrowding in the history of the Prison Service.

“Now it tries to pretend pumping radio programmes into cells makes everything all right “It would be comic if it were not so tragic.

The Prison Service, which came up with the idea, claimed the £2million to start the station up would come out of existing budgets and a charity would chip in with running costs.

A senior source insisted: “As prisoners are having to spend more time in their cells, it was felt it was important to launch this kind of service.

An official claimed keeping inmates in cells longer was saving £17million a year — and stressed the station would carry “messages and educational programmes.

He added: “It can also be used to communicate to prisoners in the event of an incident.

But one staffer at the Ministry of Justice, which runs the Prison Service, said: “We’re cutting back everywhere “It’s ridiculous spending this sort of money to pamper prisoners even more.

Mr Garnier said: “It would be better to have prisoners doing something useful like working rather than lying on their beds listening to Jack Straw twittering at them over the radio.
