Oh no no no. This guy should go to jail. Breaking into someone's house is no minor offense. Community service should be for less invasive crimes.

i don't think the comment "It's his first offence" rings true ....................first time he got caught maybe? but that is mere speculation.


I put this thread on as an example of how judges blame government for imposing sentencing restrictions and guidelines. Something that Spot disagree's with me over.

I really hoped that we could get to the bottom of the question here in this country as to: Is it the fault solely of too soft judges? or are they indeed being given sentencing guidelines by government?

We do certainly have an over crowding problem in our prisons and need to build more as well as youth custodial units. judges are certainly reluctant to pass down a custodial sentence. One example is that to be found in possession of a knife carrie's a 5 year max prison sentence but it is rare that magistrates even pass down 6 months.

Any views anyone????
