I have just learned that those "snow globes" that are so popular contain

ETHYLENE GLYCOL (Antifreeze) and can be dangerous to your kids

(both fur and skin!) if the globe breaks and the contents are ingested.



Symptoms of EG poisoning: Appearing "drunk", excessive thirst, and

frequent urination.



Please be careful, folks, this stuff can cause kidney/organ damage

and/or death.

Snow globes are those round things with a little scene inside,

you shake them and "snow" comes down on the little houses or whatever.

You most often see them at Christmas time.

Geeze Val that is amazing news, you know who else to watch around those? Cats, Antifreeze generally is deadly to cats. And knowing cats' and their curiosity, One swipe & off it goes crashing to the floor and kitty laps it all up. Antifreeze tastes sweet and many cats are attracted to that taste.

If kitty gets poisoned there are life commitments trying to keep a cat alive if they injest even the smallest amount of anitfreeze. Most kitties do not survive no matter how valiant an effort the owner puts in

This from my cousins vet as my cousin had her cat poisoned by anti freese and the poor woman tried in vain to help kitty live but it wasn't enough.

And it takes very very little anti freeze to poisin kitty.

I know, Minks, that's why I said both "fur" and "skin" kids!!



I wasn't sure exactly what was in them, either, I guess a lot of people

thought it was water, I thought maybe something else but I for sure

didn't think it was antifreeze!!



This lady (from another board I visit) just almost lost her 15 week old

german shepherd. He knocked the globe off a shelf. They cleaned

it up but she thinks he licked enough to make him sick, he is

probably gonna come home today but he's been at the vet for 4 days

being treated. Thankfully, she knew the signs and raced him to her

vet, but he might have some kidney damage, vet told her it would be

a while before they knew how much.



Very, very scary to me, wish the dang things had warning labels!

I have got three of these, but they are in my glass cabinet, I love them and the kids were fascinated with them when they were little.

I never knew that though, I shall make sure no small hands will get them, cheers Val :-6

cheers once again Val, my kids have these in their bedroom, kids ones too????

Once we were on holiday and the eldest bought one from a souvenier shop for her pal back home but she smashed it in the caravan, mess was awful, im guessing now it wasnt just glitter and water:(

Just reminded me when the kids were little I got a bit carried away shaking it, I actually launched the blimmin thing into the air and the kids were well impressed with the glitterall over the floor
